CHAPTER FOUR Dakota sat in the back once more, staring through the windshield, over the arm of the deputy who'd been assigned to drive them to the station where Mr. and Mrs. Shirer were waiting. The vehicle moved at a more appropriate speed through the city streets, leaving the long, desolate road behind, the mountains fading in the rearview mirror. Dakota glanced down at her phone, studying the images Agent Clement had sent, along with the updated, digital files on the case.
