Oswald
I found her! When my father exiled me from the pack, I had lost all hope of ever meeting my mate, but I did! When he exiled me, I felt my odds of finding my partner were nil. My mate was a human, but that didn't bother me. She was flawless.
I couldn't figure out why she was tethered to a tree. I hated it. My mate shouldn't be chained up. She was the queen of my heart.
I effortlessly snapped the steel chains, releasing her, without a problem. Her mouth opened in surprise. Her lovely vanilla aroma was tinged with apprehension. My heart began to sink.
Did I scare her?
As I surveyed her lovely face, I pondered. She sure seemed to be shocked. Perhaps I should slow down while displaying my strength. A smile curled on my lips as I gazed deeply into her wonderful eyes. Slowly, I began to lose myself in her gaze. So enticing... so seductive.
As my eyes travelled to her gorgeous lips, my heart raced. The thought of kissing her made my lips tingle. My fingertip touched her lower lip as I held her face. So gentle. I wondered what she tasted like. I was certain that she would taste better than anything I have had in the past .
Her lips drew apart. I could tell she was perplexed. She was a human, thus she might not get what a mate meant to us. That, though, was fine. With her, I would be patient.
"Who... who are you?" she asked softly.
Her sweet tone was soothing to my ears. Her voice, too, sounded magical. I took a big gulp of air. She might be the treatment for my broken soul. She might be able to help me repair my scarred heart. For a change, my moaning heart was fluttering in excitement and my wolf leaping for glee at the mere sight of her. Her aroma brought nothing but delight to me. And her touch was undoubtedly healing.
I swallowed the accumulated saliva and cleared my throat.
"My name is Oswald, what's yours?" I asked softly, wanting to be as gentle as possible with her.
Her face was permanently frowning, and her gaze darted around, avoiding me. She was torn. Was she reluctant to tell her name?
"Uh... I..."
I frowned, puzzled as to why she was hesitant. I took a look at the steel chains that lay idle on the ground.
Someone had wronged her, and she was having trouble trusting me. My heart hurt as I realised my mate was having trust issues. I was her soulmate - a part of her. She could trust me even with her eyes closed. I would never harm her.
That, though, she would not comprehend. She was a human, and she was most likely clueless of our kind. At the very least, she wasn't pushing me away and I was grateful for that.
I gingerly tucked her hair behind her ear.
"It's all right. You can tell me later if you want," I told her. I would go as slow as a snail if that meant I would be earning her trust.
Her cheeks flushed. Despite the fact that it was dark in the forest, I was able to see properly. Her appearance was appealing. Her hair was tangled, yet, I thought she was the most attractive woman I had ever laid my eyes on. I traced her features with a contented smile. My fingers were tingling from the sparks of the mate bond that erupted where our skin met.
She was flawless... But why did she appear to be so... battered?
"She is bruised! Look at her hands! They're covered in blue and purple spots! Someone has hurt her!"
Aztec, my inner wolf, growled.
My pupils dilated and my jaws clenched. He was absolutely correct. Someone has assaulted her, and as a human, she is unable to heal as we do. My muscles became stiff. The temptation to rip the aggressors to shreds grew within me.
Blood. My wolf and I desired for their blood….
"Who did this?" With hardly restrained wrath, I asked her.
Her eyes widened in terror once more, and her breathing became laboured. Nonetheless, when I began to examine her wounds, she let out a small gasp. Her arms and legs were swollen and bruised. I'm sure her torso will be hurt as well. I wanted to check them as well, but I knew she wouldn't allow me. I didn't want to scare her further by forcefully checking her wounds.
As I speculated the matter, my eyes narrowed. My mate was chained outside the hut in the woods that was frequented by humans. She was beaten severely. So, I believed those who attacked her would be inside the hut.
I was drawn in by the sound of a door opening. A human male emerged from the cabin and turned to face us.
"Hey! Who are you? What are you going to do with our property?" he snarled.
His property? This nasty human's boldness! She was mine! Mine!
I pushed my mate behind my back and prepared to meet the human who was sprinting at me like a rabid fowl. I sneered as I expertly grasped and twisted his arm, causing him to scream in pain.
"Are you the one who beat her up?" I grumbled.
Instead of responding, he shouted out for assistance.
"Did you do this to her?" I repeated. My rage grew with each repetition of my query. He did not reply.
I glanced across at my mate, who appeared to be enjoying what she was seeing. As she saw me restrain the guy, her eyes twinkled with excitement. There could be only one reason she was happy about this, and that would be because this worthless human had injured her.
"Did he cause you any harm?" I inquired, and she responded with a nod.
That was all the proof I required.
He growled, "Why the fúck do you care?"
I snapped at his impoliteness.
I hissed into his ears, "wrong answer," before cracking his neck like a withered twig and murdering him instantly.
She let out a gasp. Perhaps she wasn't expecting it, but assassinating an criminal was a breeze for me. After all, I was a professionally trained alpha. My entire adolescence had been spent in training. When I turned twenty, my father planned to hand over the pack to me, but things went south when he remarried when I was fifteen. Despite this, I finished my training. The alpha training had aided my survival as a lone wolf in the woods.
I heard additional footsteps rushing around inside the cabin. So there are a lot more of them. I grabbed my companion and encircled her with a protecting arm. I felt her stiffen in my arms, but I wasn't going to let them touch her with their filthy hands. I would protect her with my life.
She belonged to me.
I gave the three men who went out of the cabin an unpleasant stare.
"Mark!" When one of them saw his comrade's lifeless body laying at my feet, he yelled out.
I smirked and casually kicked the corpse. They had the most precious expressions on their faces when their friend didn't move. Growling in anger, they snatched whatever weapons they could find and charged straight towards me. I attacked them in our defense making sure that my mate was shielded by my body so that they couldn't harm her. Their knives and firearms weren't made of silver, they can only do minor damage to me.
I took two of them by the shoulders and banged their heads together, cracking their skulls. They collapsed on the ground lifeless as blood oozed out of their cracked skulls. The only one left was the third one, who was shooting at me from a distance. He dropped his gun and began running when he realised his bullets weren't affecting me. Smirking, I ran after him.
He could barely move a few steps away. I seized him and broke his neck, putting an end to his life just as I had put an end to his friend's.
When he dropped dead at my feet, I stared at his motionless figure, panting and took a sniff of the air to see if there were any more of them.
There were none remaining, but why was my mate's sweet aroma in the air now becoming faint?
"She's on the run! Find her! We might lose her!" Aztec became agitated.
To be honest, I was terrified as well. The possibility of losing my sweetheart scared the s**t out of me. I didn't want to be separated from her. She was my better half.
I followed her fragrance and soon found her. She was racing desperately deeper into the woods. I was sure she had no idea where she was going. I increased my speed and caught up to her. After yanking at her arm, I drew her into my chest as soon as I caught up. She slammed into my chest, but as soon as I wrapped my arms around her, she began to thrash against me. She was feisty for a human, but I liked it. I adored her in every way.
"Let me go!" she screamed, pushing me away with all her might.
"Shhh," I said, peppering kisses on the cheeks and forehead till she relaxed.
I wanted her to know I would never do anything to harm her. I wanted her to have faith in me. I wished she would stay with me. I knew I'd have to take things slowly with her because she was a human, but I needed a chance to do so. A chance to show her that I was deserving of her affection.
I continued to pour loving words into her ears as she gradually relaxed in my arms. Slowly, her irregular heart began to quiet down.
"It's fine to be scared. Don't worry, I'll never do anything bad to you," I told her in hushed tones.
I stroked her hair out of her face and held her in my arms after she had relaxed.
"Why are you making your way deeper into the woods? You might be caught by a rogue," I informed her.
Her lips drew apart.
"D… deeper?"
I gave a nod. Poor girl. She was trembling in panic. Regardless, I was proud of my mate. She was courageous.
"Look, you need to take some time to relax and heal. Let me help you," I told her, hoping she would let me assist her.
She appeared to be conflicted once more. Maybe the mate bond was having an impact on her. Perhaps she was bewildered. I grinned. Even in her confused state, she looked very cute. I gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead and let my lips linger there.
That wasn't all I wanted to do. I wanted to demonstrate how much she meant to me. I wanted to express my feelings toward her. I felt compelled to claim her right then and there. My soul craved for his other half while my wolf howled, expressing his passion for her.
I wished for us to unite, like we were supposed to. We were soulmates, inseparable from one another. Our spirits were joined in the land of the souls. That's how we should be in this world as well: together.
I wanted to kiss her sweet lips, but that was not possible. But for her, I'd hold off. I wanted her to yearn for me and have faith in me, and I planned to earn it. If I forced myself on her, she would never trust me. She would almost certainly reject me.
That thought made me shiver. I was most afraid of being rejected. It stung like hell when my own family repudiated me. That pain is something I would never wish on anyone.
I moved my focus to the ethereal beauty, who was staring at me, perplexed. Her lips were pulled together and her forehead was furrowed.
"Let me help you. Please?"
I silently prayed, hoping for a favourable response. Her brow furrowed and her head bobbed slightly.
I grinned. She gave her consent. I scooped her up in my arms and hurried through the trees towards my little home.
