I fought off tears as I made my way back to the palace. I thought about everything–about Rion being poisoned, about Eva and the pirates. Could I have been so gullible to think they would take me with them? Of course, they wouldn't have chanced having to run from the palace guards while trying to hunt down Hestia's treasure.
I felt like the Goddess had forsaken me, despite all my prayers to her. The tears fell, hot and angry against my cheeks. I didn't like feeling like I wasn't in control of my emotions.
