defiance

“You didn’t expect me to let you come out here all by yourself, did you?” Robyn said as she casually jogged backwards to study me, “I can’t believe George came on to you the way he did!” she ended her statement with an excited squeak. She could be excruciatingly energy draining and exceptionally refreshing all at once, a unique gift only Robyn possessed. We were on our way to training, ten minutes early, as I had promised George I would offer my assistance. After all, what hope did a pack have if I, an almost twenty year old dainty girl, could top its Beta in a fight. It was still dark out as it was only 4am, the moonlight only just managing to penetrate the forest’s dense canopy as we walked down a dusty footpath leading to the secluded Pack House. The footing was a soft dirt, compacted by its frequent travelers but soft in the sense that I could hear the gentle thud of my feet hitting the surface, like a drum playing to my own personal beat. The little birds were starting to chirp as the woke between the glistening dewy leaves that sent tiny droplets crashing into the dust and leaves below. The forest had a unique and undeniable tranquility to it, no wonder our kind preferred being surrounded by its luscious greenery above the hustle and bustle of the city along with its never sleeping glow of neon lights. Even the air smelt fresher here, the dampened dirt and tree bark was a refreshing aroma which I could get lost in. Stepping out of the cover provided by the tall, thick trees we stepped onto the soft mowed lawn surrounding the Pack House. People we starting to gather, appearing from every direction as they too stepped out from the privacy offered by the forest. “Good morning beautiful,” George’s deep rolling voice greeted me, I realized the sensual greeting was intending to have an effect on me, but I doubt that he intended for it to trigger my gag reflex. “Good morning,” Robyn smiled, breaking the silence. “Hi,” I said keeping my interaction with him short. Did he really think he had a chance with me? That I would ever see him as anything more than the malicious boy who shoved me as I walked down the steps of the bleachers next to the school’s football field, only to tell me to stay down in the dirt where I belonged. No, I could never want him, it didn’t matter how handsome he was, I was determined to show him that I too could put him face down in the dirt. Over his shoulder I noticed a brooding Damian, glaring at his best friend as if he had insulted him. Was I that disgusting, that it was an insult to him if his Beta wanted to be around me. Deciding to challenge the theory I reached forward to slowly run my fingers along George’s muscular arm all the while keeping my eyes focused on the Alpha about to combust into flames. “So... where would you like me?” I said suggestively in a husky voice. I felt George’s muscles vibrate under my touch while watching an infuriated Alpha stride straight toward us. His hands pushed back his inky black hair with a dangerous edge that made all his muscles flex to demonstrate his power. Yes, he was a powerful man and his every movement, no matter how gracious it could be, exuded a threat that said ‘don’t mess with me’ to anyone who dared to face him. His eyes glowed a bright red as he approached us, and when he stopped in front of me, so close that I could feel the heat radiate off his skin, my body betrayed me by sending a now familiar tingle to rest between my thighs. The electricity between us crackled with intensity especially since his turned black as they bore into mine. Damn him, I cursed, I wasn’t going to become a weak, submissive little b***h at his feet, whimpering for his attention. No... I was every bit his equal and he would come to recognize the fact. “Pretty damn rude to interrupt someone’s conversation like that,” I said pushing out my chin in arrogant rebellion and squaring my shoulders to counter his threat. Nobody talked to an Alpha like that, especially not the Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack, the most ruthless and powerful pack in the state. The low rumble in his throat suggested that I had pushed a button and my lips curved upward at the revelation, enjoying the sign of torment on his face and the fact that it was my doing. I stepped closer to him, our bodies almost touching and I felt the electricity between us nipping at my skin, screaming for his touch in betrayal. I wondered if he was experiencing the same sensation as he stood tensely in front of my, every muscle flexed and exuding dominance. Dominance I was not going to submit to. I felt his breath on my face as I breathed in his smoldering scent. “You should get back to your girlfriend,” I said in a low defiant voice, eliciting a growl from his lips before he turned and stalked off, shifting to his wolf before he could change out of his clothes and disappearing into the dark forest surrounding his home. When he left my breathing was shallow and my legs jelly while my underwear was shamelessly and undeniably soaked though. Damian Black had an effect on me like no other. “Oh... my...” Robyn said in awe standing next to me, in all honesty, I had forgotten she was there, “I am soooo glad I didn’t stay home!” she said in enthusiastic admiration. “They are idiots,” I replied harshly. “Girl, idiots or not, you have them wrapped around your little finger.” “Oh please,” I rolled my eyes as I took her hand and dragged her toward the other woman who stood staring at me. I convinced myself that they were only staring at their new instructor and not at the defiant shewolf who sent their Alpha running in the opposite direction.
