I opened the door of the black Ford Ranger that waited for me just off the road. The gravel crunched under my shoes as I turned to look back down the road I’d followed, secretly hoping to see the man of my dreams wanting me enough to chase after me. My heart broke a little more when I found it desolate and empty, mirroring the way I felt inside. I climbed behind the wheel, smelling the luxurious new car smell that filled the cab as I chucked my denim bag down on the seat beside me. I heard my phone vibrate through the worn and faded material of my old trusted blue denim bag and I yanked it out, hoping to see his name on my screen, but saw Robyn’s name instead. I declined her call. As much as I loved her I didn’t have the emotional energy to endure her relentless questioning. I felt drained
