CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR Ros held me close against his chest, and I was glad for the warmth. Laying on the moldy ground in clothes still damp from our swim had caused a chill to sink into my bones. We traveled along a narrow, barely perceptible footpath that led into a sort of grove within the woods. The trees here were shorter but thicker than the other parts. They also weren’t pine wood, but resembled maples and aspen. Their dominance no doubt stemmed from the many pools of water scattered about either side of the trail. I also noticed some strange upside-down pine cones in these white-wood trees, only they weren’t pine cones. They had the general egg shape of the cones, but they hung on the upside of the branches and were a strange gray color. They were also breathing, as I noticed
