They led us to the back of the room where I found the pair.
The omega named Rome was no bigger than Josh. He looked under the weather. The alpha named Jinn seemed to be in much better health, but there does not seem to be anything special about them, aside from the fact that he seems to prefer to cross dress.
“So, it’s an ordinary alpha, huh?” I couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
“Pumapayag pala ang school n’yong mag-female uniform ang mga bakla?” Eric asked straight out after looking at them.
“H-hindi po ako bakla!” said the alpha, Jinn.
“Tito Eric, disguise po `yan, disguise!” Josh explained.
“I was told that you were able to scent your pair even before you found out that you were an omega?” I asked the omega, Rome.
“Y-yes, sir,” he answered softly.
“And I can see that you are about to go into heat,” I added.
“Ha?!” the four students in front of us asked in unison.
“Not to worry, I can take care of that.”
I placed my briefcase on the table, took out a small compact, and opened it. It contains my personal formula, a calming cream made from my concentrated calming pheromones. I dabbed my index finger in and applied some at the back of Rome’s ears.
“Any better?” I asked.
Rome nodded at me. He was beggining to get some color in his cheeks.
“Ano po yan? Ang bango n’ya, parang calming cream?” Josh curiously asked.
“You can call it that,” I answered. “I can’t do anything for you, though,” I pointer at the alpha, Jinn.
“It’s okay I’m not in a rut anyway.” he replied.
“Not yet,” I answered back as I took out more stuff from my case. “Now, I need sweat, urine, and blood samples, and if you can give me some sperm...”
“Habibi, napag-usapan na natin ang tungkol sa consent, `di ba?” Eric piped in. “`Pag ikaw na-demanda...”
“I give my consent!” Rome quickly said, “though... giving you some sperm is a bit...”
“I give my consent as well,” followed Jinn, “as long as it can help us be together.”
“Mga bata,” Eric stared at them, “pareho kayong menor. Hindi kayo p’wedeng pumayag nang walang pahintulot mula sa magulang n’yo.”
“Hindi naman nila malalaman kung walang magsusumbong, eh!” said Jinn who looked at the others in the room, “at saka, ilang buwan na lang magiging 18 na ako!”
“Eh, paano `yung sperm?” Josh asked, wide-eyed, even though he wasn’t the one who needed to produce it.
“Sweat and blood samples will do,” I answered.
Eric simply shook his head in disapproval as I took samples from the pair.
“Bahala ka, Habibi, ha? Sinasabi ko sa `yo, `pag tayo nademanda...”
“Don’t worry, I know the consequences of my actions,” I replied as I took sweat samples from the alpha. “There, that’s the last of it.”
“Is that all?” Jinn asked.
“That, and I suggest exchanging clothes,” I added, “The scent will keep you both sane.”
“Sane?” they looked questioningly as me.
“Magpalitan kayo ng damit,” explained Eric, “p’wede n’yong amuyin `yan para `di n’yo masyadong hanapin ang isa’t-isa.”
“Right, also, I suggest you don’t go to school tomorrow,” I told Rome. “Pretend to be in heat. Refuse to even get out of bed. Who is your family doctor?”
“Dr. Fuego, from the Medical City...”
“Cerillo Fuego. Got it.”
“You know my doctor?” Rome seemed surprised.
“Mabibilang lang ang magagaling na doctor sa Manila na nag s-specialize sa mga omegas,” Eric told him, “maliit lang ang circle nila.”
“Ask to see your doctor,” I told him. “I will talk with Dr. Fuego and come in his behalf.”
“Okay, Dr. Abdel! I’ll wait for you tomorrow.”
“Then, we shall be on our way.”
“Ahh... sa wakas, makakapag date na rin tayo!” Eric leaned back on his seat as I started the car. “Diretso na tayo sa Boni para kumain ng Lomi.”
“Eric, did you notice anything out of the ordinary about the pair?”
“Hmm? Wala naman... pero parang mukhang pamilyar ang Rome na `yun, ha. May kuya kaya s’yang nagngangalang Giovani?”
“I did not find anything special about them either, that is why I am wondering if there is something special in ther blood samples...”
Eric faced me, pouting.
“Don’t tell me, gusto mo nang dumiretso pauwi sa bahay?”
“If it is okay with you, mahal, can we order some take-out instead?”
Eric gave a deep sigh, but he still agreed to my request.
“Okay, pero babawi ako sa susunod, ha? Dapat kakain ka `uli ng balot!” he grinned at me, ”At dapat, sa susunod, pati sisiw kakainin mo.”
”Ugh... do I really have to?!”
Eric laughed at me. I gave him a quick glance and smile.
“Okay, I promise to eat a whole balut to make it up to you.”
“Dapat `tig tatlo tayo!”
“Three of them?!”
“Oo, dahil naudlot ang ating date sa araw na ito, perfect pa naman ang lahat!”
“Okay, 3 baluts...”
“On Friday night.”
“This coming weekend.”
“Sa bagay, may balak nga rin ako’ng balikang experiment, isang linggong mahigit din ako `di nakapag trabaho. Tamang-tama, makapag take-out para makapag relax tayo sa bahay, `di pa hasstle pag-uwi, p’wede na tayong dimiretso sa lab at doon kumain.”
We went to our favorite bulaluhan and bought our food. We went straight home after that, heated our food in the microwave, and ate in the laboratory.
We went to our respective corners. Eric worked on his experiment, while I checked the blood and sweat samples I got from Rome and Jinn.
“As I expected, there really is nothing special about those two.” I said to myself.
“Hmm?” Eric looked at my direction, “May sinabi ka ba?”
“About Rome and Jinn. It seems there really is nothing special about them.”
“Pshh... as if masasabi mo `yun nang tingin lang?” he stood up from his stool and came closer. “Pasilip nga...”
He looked at the slides carefully and gave a sigh.
“Tama, wala ngang kakaiba. Mga ordinaryong tao lang sila na may genes ng ordinaryong alpha at ordinaryong omega,” he said. “Hindi mo naman kasi makikita ang kakaiba sa isang tao nang simpleng pagkuha lang ng specimen dito. Kailangan mo rin silang subaybayan para makita ang personality nila, ang kanilang mga habits and preferences. Hindi ka makakapagbigay ng conclusion hanggat `di mo sila lubos na nakikilala.”
“That’s right, that is why observation is essensial in scientific research.”
“Tamang-tama, balak mong puntahan sa bahay si Bansot, `di ba?”
“Bansot?” I frowned at the professor, “You mean, Rome?”
“Sino ba pa? Wala pa atang 5 feet ang batang `yun!” he laughed. “Anyway, bukas naman ay walang kakaibang happening sa lab, so you can go to him anytime, basta mag-iingat ka lang lagi.”
“Are you sure, professor?” I stared at him. “You won’t be lost without me?”
“Bakit? Ano tingin mo sa `kin? Bata-batuta?” he laughed, “Basta’t gawan mo lang ako ng one day supply ng masarap mo’ng kape, at goodluck sa study mo. `Wag ka lang masyadong makulit, ha? At humingi ka ng permiso sa magulang ni Bansot bago ka magpainom ng kung ano sa kan’ya.”
“Okay, professor.”
I placed my arms around him.
“O, sandali, ang bigat mo, baka mabangga ko `tong elecron microscope...”
“Are you finished with your experiment?” I asked him.
“Medyo, tapos ka na rin ba?” he turned to face.
“Not really, I still want to try some tests.”
“Ako rin may ginagawa pa, pero...” he placed his arm around my waist and nuzzle my nape. “Baka p’wede naman magpagawa ng kape, mahal?”
I gave a sigh and pinched his cheek.
“Okay, I’m starting to get hungry myself. I’ll make us some snacks for tonight.”
“Thank you mahal! Ang swerte-swerte ko talaga sa `yo!”
I shake my head slowly as I make my way down to the kitchen. This is going to be another long night.
And that’s just the way we like it.
