The rift between husband and wife was felt between everyone at the ranch. Jonathan moved in with his brothers at the old house. The night of the fight when he entered the house, James and Jaime just gave Jon the same look of disappointment their father would give.
While Jonathan grew up religious, he and thousands of men like him lost that religion after the war. For the first time in many years he went down on his knees in prayer. He asked the lord for guidance, and to see him through this most trying time in his life.
When he stood back up again Jon wasn’t miraculously a different man. However, he did feel different, he felt better. Jonathan felt better sharing his burdens with the Lord. Now all he needed was to be able to find a way to explain things to his wife.
