Chapter 7Tatiana had asked, in an extremely polite but iron-clad voice, that Arthur come up and speak with her in her office. Alan had begun, “Your Majesty—” in a way that suggested a desire to throw himself between Arthur and metaphorical maternal wolves; Arthur’s mother had said, “I believe you should be resting?” with such precise inflection that Alan stopped talking, and then she’d swept out of the room, leaving Arthur no choice but to follow.
