Day Four

1919 Words
I run on the treadmill in the gym that’s located basically in the basement of our apartment complex. it’s an old memory i like to carry with me. I was once the fastest kid in track and cross country in Florida. But it’s best to stay low here, so can’t be fast. “Roman!” Someone screams. I trip over my feet in shock, practically falling onto the treadmill. I turn, and glare at my i***t sister who smiles wide at me. Her evil smile. “Are you going to fall?” “I’m going to kick you.” She lets out a giggle, which she’s usually good at hiding. “There is a Damien on the phone for you.” She holds it out and winks. I frown. “How did he get our number?” “He called dad. Who gave him this one. You got a stalker. I’m so proud baby bro.” I scoff. “he doesn’t know when to leave things alone, we can’t get close with anyone.” She nods. “I know. Or i would’ve lost my virginity four times before you.” “I lost mine at 14.” I grin, grabbing the phone. “That’s not fair! You’re ten minutes younger then me!” I wink at her, and step out of the gym, walking further down the hallway so she can’t hear. “So are you stalking me now?” I say when i set the phone to my ear. “You wish.” “Didn’t i tell you to leave me alone?” “I don’t back down from a fight. Now, I’m at the ice cream place by the school, you can join and get free ice cream or avoid me and pretend you don’t bush whenever I’m around. I bite my lip, trying to stop the blush. “I’ll see you in ten.” He hangs up and i hold my smile back so hard it hurts my cheek. When i turn around my sister is standing there, holding her arms to her chest; in a disapproving manner. “Well?” “Free ice cream.” I grab my shirt, tugging it back on. “Be careful.” “Always am.” I walk slowly through the city, so i am not drenched in sweat when i meet him. That would be embarrassing enough. He’s seen me fall on my face four times already. Thankfully, as soon as i see him standing in line, the sweat is gone, but just in case i set my jacket on. I’m already nervous and we haven’t made eye contact. I take a deep breath and walk to him, which he instantly smiles when he looks up. My heart hammers in my chest like a thirteen year old boy who saw his first p**n and their parents almost saw. “So, you came what would you like?” “Mint.” I whisper. “Oh classic.” He smiles, and orders two bowls, walking with me to the other window, grinning. “You’re sweating.” Fuck, are you kidding me. “I just got done running.” “Why?” “Blow of steam.” I say softly. “Cause you miss me?” “You wish.” Again with the blush. I did miss him, if I’m being honest with myself. I like his company. He makes me forget everything. Which isn’t good either. He hands me my ice cream and walks me to the park bench, sitting across from me. “So, want to tell me why you don’t want to be friends?” Oh believe me, i want to be so much more then friends. I take a bite of the ice cream, and avoid the question. He nods, understanding. “Got it. Can you tell me anything.” Why? I glance at my ice cream, and nod. “thank you for the ice cream.” He smiles. “You’re welcome. You know it’s suspicious you won’t say anything. Given you’ve told me so much about how you can’t walk right.” I blush, but act like i can’t tell, looking at him. “You haven’t said anything.” “What would you like to know?” “Where did you move from?” “F—“ he stops himself, and clears his throat. “Francisco. San Francisco.” he says softly. Hm. Weird. But i move forward. “Why did you move here?” “Well i lived in New York City, but moved to Francisco, and my mom wanted to move back to the big city. But wanted a small life also. So we settled here.” Hm. “Confusing.” I whisper. He nods. “Yes it is. So is your need to hide things.” I nod. Its much easier when you don’t pry things out of me. You and your cryptic, almost too thought out answers. “Alright, be mysterious, i get it.” He licks his spoon. “But i will pry it out of you.” I smile some, and stare at my ice cream. I wish i could tell him everything, just so he can see he can’t and shouldn’t pry. And to get it off my chest. Holding this in, hurts me. “But i will hold back as long as you will.” He winks, and i sink into my hoodie, his winks make me blush. And I’m fighting the urge to tell him everything. “it’s cute to see you blush.” “Stop.” I sink even further and he laughs. “Alright, I’ll quit. I just…i think you’re cute.” “I’m going to combust, stop.” “Okay.” He smiles at me. “I just wanted to get to know you.” “Well, maybe more then just four days?” He nods. “I suppose it would be better. I’m going to continue to hit on you though.” I giggle. “Okay, i should get home though. My mom is getting off work soon.” “I can drive you.” No. “It’s just down the block, thank you though.” I whisper, and get off the park bench, throwing the container away. “Thank you for the ice cream Damien.” He nods. I walk away from the pack bench, and towards the apartment. I wish i could like him, i wish i could kiss him, and date him, and tell the world. But no. Once home, i yell to my mom that I’m home and go to my room. Which i share with my sister. Who i bet is waiting to ambush me. I drop on the bed and stare at her. “Well, he suck your d**k?” I scoff. “Oh, you sucked his?” “No d***s were involved.” “well why go meet him for ice cream then!” “He likes me.” “That’s good isn’t it?” She looks at her magazine. I shake my head. “No.” I whisper. “Why not! You’re so losers since we moved!” She falls back, groaning. “You know what we have to hide. He’s so..pushy for information. He wants to know so much about me.” “Maybe because he likes you? It’s normal to ask questions.” “He’s new, he’s hot, he’s mysterious, and he wants to talk to me?” She frowns “The loser who never talks in school, who you can tell wears old raggedy clothes. He decides to talk to me? If he’s gay, there are others out there he can talk to. Trent on the football team is gay.” She gasps. “what! No!” I nod. “Caught him. When you don’t talk, no one expects you to be nosey.” She giggles. “I just don’t think i can trust him like he wants me too.” “well you have to give a little to get a little.” I nod. “I gave him my favorite ice cream.” “You’re a moron!” I fall back on the bed and groan “I know! God why can’t dad just be normal, or act normal so i can fall in love, and f**k any guy that comes my way! And not have to worry if they’re trying to kill me!” She laughs, throwing her pillow at me. “Where’s the excitement in that?” I shove up on my elbows and groan. “f**k Luc how do you do it? Not get worried.” “f**k and forge brother. It’s a f**k and forget.” She flips through the pages.” “You’ve never loved anyone?” She stops mid turn, but continues. “Nope.” “You’re such a liar!” I gasp. “Can’t prove it” “I loved Nick. He was sweet, and cute, and funny, talkative, but cute. I left him. You cried for three weeks after we left. You loved someone. Who?” She looks at me. “I won’t tell, i promise.” She shuts her magazine, and looks at me for a solid minute before whispers the one name that sends shivers up my spine. “Alexi.” I gasp, and move up. “The boss! He’s the man after dad!” “I know.” She whispers. “Spill. “we weren’t sleeping together, he said he wouldn’t, because i was seventeen at the time. But we flirted. Or at least i did, he never really gave back.” “Mmhm.” She laughs. “He said he loved me for my snappy comebacks and wild side. And when i was nineteen he caved. And gave in. And then attacks dad. He slapped me and called me a traitor and i was worthless and a no-good gold digger. He told me to run or he would break my kneecaps.” “Luc— “Don’t.” She shakes her head, and chokes up, she doesn’t do often. “I told you because i can trust you. Not because i want to talk my feelings into it.” She gets up and walks out of the room, slamming the door. Lucy isn’t good with really any emotions. And with the way she was acting, she loved him. I feel bad, the way she was when she left, you would think i was heartless. I left a boyfriend i was with since i was 12. She had him for like..a year? He must’ve really broke her heart, and i feel so terrible for her.
