6.preparation

ZANE pov. It 

Wow. He is a little prince. And a powerful wizard once he gets his powers. I’m pretty sure that this asshole of an uncle is in big trouble. I am so glad Adam brought him here. We are honoured to give shelter to the chosen one who is said to bring harmony to all the mystical beings.

I will make sure that Luke doesn’t get bullied here. I was serious when I told him that I would punish anyone who tries to hurt him. I would gladly kick their butts.

“ I wish my sister Aisha can be here with us. She was the only nice one back in the palace.”

I heard Luke say.....Aisha... What a beautiful name. I have never heard that name before. If only we could find her...

I didn’t know I was lost in my thoughts until Adam snapped his fingers on my face.

“ You are zoning out again”

“Who is zoning out?” it was Tina, Jason’s mate and the pack’s delta female. She just entered the room with her six-year-old daughter Sophia, most probably after finishing her work in the infirmary. She is a pack doctor and works hard wherever she is needed, especially if it involved medical assistance.

“Zane is,” Jason said and she approached him. He just snaked his arm around his waist and smiled. Well, I am glad he remembered that Luke is here, otherwise I wouldn’t enjoy the warm welcome he would give his mate.

“Is this Luke? Jason told me about him” Tina waved her hand at him.

“Yeah. And we just found out he is a wizard prince. Wilma came here and we learnt a lot of new information.”

Tina raised her eyebrows. “really?”

“Yeah. I think the days ahead would be hectic for all of us. After what Wilma had told us we better be prepared.” Adam looked at Jason.” I need to increase the training of our warriors, and I want everyone who can fight to be involved in the training. I have a feeling we should prepare for war. Jason, you train the warriors, double their training, I will inspect it myself. Zane, you should check the activities of our spies and I expect you to personally inspect them, in addition to the extra training. Tina, I need you to prepare the infirmary for any casualties we might have, let me know if we need to get more medical supplies. And of course, all the women who do not take part in the battle should be taught self-defence. I want Jess and Tina to be in charge of the training of female warriors. I know everyone trains regularly, but now I think we should be prepared for the worst.”

We all nodded.

“I want everyone to report to me,” Adam added.

“Yes Alpha,” we said in unison. I left the meeting room to check on the activities near the tree in the woods.

JESS pov.

I am so glad that Luke accepted us as his adoptive parents. I had come to the meeting room after submitting the forms necessary for adoption. It had to be done so we can consider Luke as a member of the pack.

It is overwhelming to know so much new information at once. In addition to that, we have to train harder, to get ready for a war that this might trigger. Which means I would have to gather my female troops earlier for extra training. I would gather them for normal training and explain everything then.

I was mentally preparing my schedule when I felt Tina nudging my side. I looked at her as she was pointing towards Sophia and Luke talking and giggling about something.

“That was fast. I didn’t know kids made friends easily.” I whispered.

Tina looked amused. “ looks like Sophia has found a playmate.”

“Yeah. I’m glad they get along well.” We looked at each other and burst out laughing.

“mommy” Sophia called out to Tina. “can we take Lucky to the playground?”

Lucky? She is calling him nicknames already. Tina looked at me. I shrugged.

“ok. Let’s go.” Tina and I got up to take them to the playground.

“Yay!” they cheered.

Kids can lighten up the mood no matter what the situation is. Adam and Jason got out of the meeting room with us to get on with their duties.

We kissed our mates before leaving.

“ewwwwwww.” Sophia made a face. “don't worry Lucky. Mommy and daddy sometimes need to do......that”

“why?” asked Luke.

Sophia looked thoughtful. “Maybe they need to smell each other sometimes.”

“ my sister said grown-ups do that because they like each other” Luke said.

“your sister? Ok. But it is so gross.” Sophia scrunched her nose.

We all laughed. Their innocent exchange of words sure has lightened up the mood.

Meanwhile, Zane was discussing with the head warrior. He had already deployed some spies to the wizard hideout, though they had not noticed any activity afterwards. Zane decided that he would be there in the woods once the sun sets as he felt that they ought to find something at night. With that Zane retreated to his room hoping to get some rest, as he couldn’t get any sleep the night before.

Night fell. Zane and the spies were well hidden in the bushes. No one would have guessed that they were hiding as they were fully camouflaged. The darkness of the woods was not a problem for Zane and his team as their eyesight was well adjusted to such situations. Besides they were fully trained.

The figure hiding in a brown cloak was not missed by Zane and their team. They watched keenly as he took something in a plastic bag inside the trunk of the tree. They waited until he came out and disappeared.

Nothing else happened. The whole night went by. They didn’t even hear a sound. At dawn break, Zane went back to his alpha to report what he saw.

A week passed by. The pack had doubled their training. And the spies kept on doing their job well. For a week they noticed just someone, most probably a wizard just comes in and takes something in his hideout. He doesn’t do anything else. By now, Adam and his council had suspected that this wizard can only be someone of a high rank. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have access to some spells as Wilma had said.

By this time, Wilma had started to teach Luke some things from an old book, which she says is necessary for him to know before he starts his physical training. His eighth birthday would be when his powers start to surface and then they would start to train his powers. Although his powers would be at their peak when he turns 15, Luke had to be trained because of the circumstances.

It was then Adam had decided they need to find out what this wizard was taking in every time. They needed to find out.
