The Handfasting ceremony was over and the wedding guests, those who had received formal invitations, had gathered at the tables in the castle’s Great Hall to celebrate with Tony and Cerdic. The food for the wedding dinner—varied and sumptuous from the pottage through the desserts—was enjoyed by one and all.
When everyone had finished, Mayor Brion stood, raising his goblet of wine. “I propose a toast, not to the happy pair, there have been enough of those to last them a lifetime.” He paused while the others laughed or smiled at his words. “My toast is to the brothers from another world who came to ours unexpectedly and helped change things for the better. Not that I am in the least surprised. I saw that they would be forces to reckon with the first time we met.”
