Chapter 27: Second Mission

After Tanya left his office, Russell slouched down in his chair and sighed. He stared at the closed door where Tanya left.

“Am I really doing this right?” He worriedly asked.

He has heard from someone that sometimes; people will usually tend to realize their feelings for someone when that person distances her/himself voluntarily. Because the more you insist your feelings then the more that person resists you. And the relationship you wish to progress, will go down the drain instead.

And he doesn’t want that.

“I really hope this strategy will work.” Russell sent his prayers in the air.

Rosette is inside her office and is busy reading the construction plan for Tanya’s second hospital under the Charity Project that she initiated for the poor. The chairwoman trusted her the project a year ago after the first one in Bulacan became a success. The expected 50% loss of Capital did not occur- though they did had loss around 10%-but the fact that it’s 40 percent lesser than the expected is already a great feat.

And then after three years, the revenue slowly went up until the time came that the profit can now cater the loss. The reason for this is that, even though the hospital’s priority is the poverty-stricken people, they still cater wealthy patients from nearby cities. The equipment and facilities of the People’s Hospital are high standard and can equally compare to TG Hospitals around the country.  That is why these wealthy people trust the hospital still.

And so, seeing this as an opportunity to provide charity care while gaining profit at the same time, the chairwoman proposed on building another People’s Hospital just like in Bulacan. And for some reason, made her handle it in behalf.

She has no right to decline especially that the chairwoman went and trusted her. That’s why she is so focused on this project. She had already heard the outline of the building from the site engineer last week and this time, she received the entire plan. She was busy reading the plan when her phone rang.

Upon seeing that it’s her brother, she pressed the answer button and put the call on speakers. “Yes?” She answered while continue reading.

“Do you have a minute?” Russell asked her from the other line.

She halted her reading when she heard how serious her brother’s tone was. She picked up her phone and turned the speakers off. “Yeah. Where at?” She asked.

“You’re office. I’m already downstairs. Be there in 3.” Then her brother hung up. Rosette beeped her secretary for refreshments then waited on the couch.

Minutes later, the door creaked and her brother entered coolly. He sat on the empty couch in front of her. “I heard your busy for the construction so I’ll get straight to the point.” Her brother spoke. He looked at her intently. “I’ll be flying to US next month and will stay there. TG Capital’s going international and I will be the one to handle it. The preparations are already on-going before the chairwoman signed the approval. And she already did earlier.”

That caught her attention. “Tanya visited you?” She asked.

Her brother nodded. “Yes. To congratulate me for Hong Sua.”

“Oh, congratulations on that too brother.” She said. She planned to send him a message earlier but she forgot.

“Thanks. So as I was saying, I’m flying to US-”

She cut her brother. “Yes. About that. Why? Are you giving up now? I thought you said you won’t give her up?”

“I am not. I have reason for this decision Setty.” Her brother’s expression turned from serious to worried.

“What’s wrong really Selly?” She asked. She knows her brother so well.

“Nothing.” But he dismissed the topic. “All I am about to say is that, look after Tanya for me when I’m gone. Though she’s a natural genius, she is still not used to the cruelty of our field. Especially the enemies. That’s why help her, at all times.”

Hearing that, Rosette can’t help but scoff. “Are you kidding me, Selly? You’re just moving to US and not dying, okay? Besides, Tanya will really not need my help believe me. Her butler is more than enough. And if you really don’t wanna go, then don’t. Tsk. I can’t believe this. Go. I’m too busy.”

“W-what-”

Her brother was surprised but she already stood and went back to her desk. She looked him. “Don’t get me wrong, brother. I know you know how I felt about Tanya. So, don’t kid around me like that again. I respected the fact that we like the same person. I even distanced myself because I know it’s the best thing to do. But don’t ask favors like that again, please. Take good care of your woman yourself.”

Her brother stood. “Wha- You… You like Tanya?” He asked her.

She glared at him. “Can’t you really tell?”

“The hell!”

I put the flowers on top of a tombstone.

“Hi kid. It’s me.” I said.

Today is Riley’s death anniversary and all of us are gathered in her grave to celebrate it. And aside from this reason, we also are here to tell her about our second mission today.

A month of preparation is already done. And this time, we are targeting a human trafficking exchange in Manila South Harbor this midnight. Aside from me, Haru and Gilbert, everyone will spring into action.

“I can’t still believe that it’s already been four years since you’re gone. But don’t worry kid, we will all surely avenge your death and give you justice. We promise you that. Just give us time.” I said, and the rest nodded in agreement.

After eating and playing for the entire afternoon, we prayed for Riley’s soul one more time then bid goodbye at her. And as planned, we returned to the mansion and changed protective gears. Though my group will not go inside the port, we will still be on standby inside our vehicle parked nearby and monitor the situation via drones that Haru controls.

The moment the sun sets, everyone went to the location via different cars and bikes. And to avoid suspicion, we went off in different time.

“The victims will be inside one of the containers within the port. We need to secure the victims first before we go and interrupt the deal. Samantha’s men are cunning, they won’t keep the victims in one single container and near each other. That’s why we’ll use Haru’s infrared glasses to locate the containers carrying the victims first. Then use the tracker to mark them beforehand. You all have them, right?” Tanya asked everyone via earpiece.

“Affirmative.” Monty and Morty answered while everyone replied “Yes Miss”.

“Then be ready everyone. Try to act as normal as possible and proceed with the mission with utmost alertness.”

Tanya nodded to Haru and the kid announced. “The drones are now ready. Let the mission commence!” He said and the rest immediately moved from their designated points.
