Raven sat at her dining table reading the same math problem over and over, but it wasn’t sinking in. Sometimes the way they worded the questions made them far more complicated than necessary. She tried to extrapolate only the data she needed, looking only at the numbers and ignoring the details but something seemed to be missing.   “So, Prom on Friday,” Raven said as she looked up at Matty, giving up on math for the moment. “You looking forward to it?”   Matty shrugged. “I’m more worried about passing my exams, to be honest. I still do not get these quadratic equations.”   Raven did her best to explain factorisation, a concept she did not fully understand herself. Math had remained a mysterious subject throughout the year and the hours of revision were only just beginning to help.
