EPISODE 16- THE CLOSING ENEMY

The dawn was just a few hours to go as I saw the time in my heads up display. I have been the night watch for about nine hours now, I didn't feel fatigued as I do not require rest. I just kept looking at the horizon for the entire night, anxiously waiting for the beast that they call Megasaurus.

The sun was then about to rise, showing that it was already dawn. The bright sun resembled a bright red pinkish color rising up to the sky, as I look at it, its rays were reflected by the shiny parts of my helmet causing a specular reflection.

I then thought to myself, “For a place filled with monsters, this place seems to be quite peaceful. ” I then grabbed my rifle that was magnetized to my back. I then looked at it and thought to myself again, “So this weapon has already existed in this world before. This is quite surprising as the level of technology in this world is quite near the medieval era of my old world.”

As I was checking my weapon, a silhouette behind me suddenly appeared causing me to turn around and aim.

“Woah! Be careful where you aim that thing young man! I don't want my brains getting blown up by that thing. ”

After seeing that it was just old man Razor I immediately put down my weapon, then warned the old man, “ Do not do that again or a piece of bullet will be buried into your head. ”

“Geez young man I was just here to bring you breakfast. Also, you already know the other thing I want and why?”

“Alright, you can have my share in the breakfast.”

The old man then started to eat the two plates he was carrying. One was for me, but I cannot eat or taste anything so it would be a waste if I just throw it away, but damn this old man has quite an appetite.

After a few minutes, the old man was able to wipe out the foods in the wooden plates. I then looked at him and asked, “How much can you eat old man?”

“That's a secret,” spoke the old man as he tried to imitate the voice of a high school anime girl. Believe me or not, but I was creeped out by it that I moved a few inches away from him.

“You know you sounded kinda creepy old man.”

“How cruel of you! That was my cute voice and shy voice when I tease a woman.”

“No wonder women stay away from you old man.”

“Hey kiddo! May I remind you that I was not the one chasing the women, it was the women who were chasing me.”

“Please don't tell lies again old…”

As I was about to finish my sentence to the old man, the earth wall that I was standing suddenly started to shake. I then looked down below and saw the water in the moat started to create waves.

The old man suddenly has an alerted look on his face after he felt the earthquake. I then used my sensors to know what was causing this earthquake. I used the binocular and scout function of my helmet, I then saw in the distance using my long-range camera binocular sensors, it was the silhouette of the Megasaurus.

It was boasting a 300-meter height making it on par with the smallest mountains. I wasn't able to see the full details of the beast as it was still too far away for my sensor to see, but I pushed my sensor to its limit and I was able to capture a very pixelated image.

One thing I can get out of the pixelated image is that the beast's color was a lightish purple, and it seems to have towering diamonds or crystals on its back. The beast almost resembles a giant turtle but the towering diamonds behinds its back was very similar to the spikes of a stegosaurus.

After observing the enemy, I turned to face old man Razor and told him, “Go and report this to Ann Marie.”

“Got it” old man Razor then runs down using the dirt stairs from the dirt wall we were standing on. After seeing old man Razor run towards Ann Marie, I immediately asked Xyra.

“How long does it take for the Megasuarus to arrive near the camp Xyra?”

“According to my calculations, with the current speed of the Megasaurus may take about an hour to arrive at this camp.”

I then looked behind me and noticed most of the adventurers were already awake and were scrambling to equip their equipment. So they must have noticed the sudden earthquakes caused by the Megasaurus footsteps.

I immediately opened my inventory and got the things I needed for this battle. I pulled 3 chaos grenades which had me thinking of its 7.62x33mm shrapnel's would be effective against it. I then pulled 5 W53 which I am more confident in having the capability to damage the Megasaurus, but probably not enough.

As I was arranging my weapons to be used practically when engaged in combat. Xyra suddenly zoomed in at the direction of the Megasaurus using my sensors. She then showed me a horde of smaller Megasaurus running along with the giant Megasaurus, the smaller ones were faster.

Xyra then gave me an estimated time when the smaller Megasurus arrive, “The smaller ones will arrive in fifteen minutes with their current speed.”

“Damn, can't these other adventurers prepare quickly, we are already running out of time.”

After seeing the slow movements of the adventurers in the camp, I immediately held to my rifle and thought for a moment and then remembered something. I opened my inventory again and looked for a particular item.

After browsing my inventory I was able to find it, I even yelled, “Found it!”

I then jump off the dirt wall that I was standing on, Ann Marie who was running on my direction saw what I just did. So she dashes towards the stairs that were the only access to reach the top of the wall.

I then landed on the ground just a few inches near the edge of the moat. When I was about to dash towards the direction of the Megasaur I heard a loud yell coming from above the dirt wall.

“WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU GOING F- RANKER!”

I immediately turned around and look above, I then saw the source of the voice which was Ann Marie. I replied to the angry Ann Marie, “I'm going to slow the enemy down.”

“ARE YOU CRAZY! HOW CAN YOU SLOW DOWN THAT GIANT BEHEMOTH AND ITS HORDE OF HATCHLINGS!?!”

Instead of answering Ann Marie, I just dashed forward to the direction of the enemy. Which seemed to anger Ann Marie as her face turned red in anger. The black-haired girl who Ann Marie calls Lyka immediately patted her, she then spoke to Ann Marie.

“Calm down will ya, I can totally understand why that guy took off, look down there.” Lyka points her finger at the camp where the adventurers were still scrambling to put their equipment.

Lyka then added, “See Ann Marie, that guy saw his comrades were still unprepared to fight and look over there.” She then points her finger at the Megasaur. “See that smoke of dust rising up the air, those are probably the hatchlings of the Megasaur, which could probably arrive early because of their speed, I would say fifteen to thirty minutes.”

“But that guy's an F rank Lyka! Do you even know how hard is it to kill a single Megasaur hatchling!?”

As Ann Marie spoke those words, Razor immediately spoke to Ann Marie, “Sorry to tell you ma'am but that kid is not ordinary, so I would say he is safe to go alone in slowing down the enemy.”

After hearing the old man Lyka immediately added, “You also said that I shouldn't underestimate him, so aren't you contradicting yourself if you said that he is probably on par with me.”

As they were talking another man who was climbing the stair spoke. This man had a ponytail tied black hair and black eyes, he wore an ash-colored chest piece as his armor and wields a spear which laid to his shoulder,

“What's going on Ann Marie?”

“Voshkosh, well its about an F class adventurer running off to face the enemy by himself.”

Voshkosh then yawned and spoke, “Then let him die then, a single F ranker isn't a lost to our forces, but I would commend him for also noticing these other adventurers for their slow movement, which was probably the reason why he runs off to face the enemy alone.”

Voshkosh then looked at the adventurers that were still equipping their equipment or preparing. He then yelled at the top of the dirt wall causing everyone to notice him.

“HEY DUMBASSES!”

Everyone turned around to look above the dirt wall angrily, but upon seeing Voshkosh the angered adventurers immediately looked away. David who was also looking at Voshkosh immediately asked Karl if he knows the guy.

Karl answered David after he equips his clean white shield, “That's Voshkosh a B+ class adventurer, one of the most powerful adventurers of the Cecile Town. His strength is said to be on par with Lyka and Ann Marie.”

David then thought for a second before he realized something, “Wait! You mean that Voshkosh! The adventurer who got the nickname, the one-man army.”

“That's exaggerating his achievements, but that's the best name to actually represent his power, after beating two thousand men alone and turning the tides of war to their favor. ”

“That's so cool!” yelled David after Karl's explanation.

The sound of my heavy metal footsteps was the only thing I can hear as I run towards the direction of the enemy. I was leaving a trail as my heavy feet left the marks on the hard dirt ground. Xyra then told me that I was near the enemy, which could probably reach me in three to four minutes.

After hearing her, I immediately stopped, I then opened my inventory which I arranged before, when I was still on top of the dirt wall. I then summoned the items I needed, it was the improved version of the claymore mine.

The claymore that I have was called MG5789, it still does what an original claymore does, but it has added features, such as electric shock and bigger caliber of shrapnel. Not only that, but its blast is ten times more powerful than the original claymore mine.

I then summoned another type of weapon from my inventory. It was an assault drone that uses a 50 caliber Gatling gun on its side, it had four rotors that can be found on the extended wings which are sticking out to each its boxy design corner. I got eight of these drones from my inventory.

“Can you operate these drones Xyra?”

“I can operate them without any problems in the range of 3 kilometers. Why do you ask sir?”

“Because I want you to slow down the enemy using these drones, while I set up a minefield here to slow down the enemy even more.”

“Then how much time do you need sir?”

“Can you do it for ten minutes?”

“Affirmative sir,” the drones that I got out from the inventory then flew off above the sky. After seeing the drones move, I also immediately commenced in planting the improved futuristic claymores.

A small screen suddenly appeared in my heads up display, Xyra then explained, “Would you like to see the progress of what I will do to the enemy sir?”

While I was planting the Claymore mines, I was able to see what the drone's view was, as it heads towards the enemy. After a few seconds, I was able to see what the smaller enemies looked like.

They kinda resembled a komodo dragon with their bodies, but their speed was something else, it was faster than a normal lizard. The height of these lizard-like creatures probably is on par with an adult human.

I then told Xyra to open fire at the approaching enemies to slow them down. Within seconds, I was able to see the tracer rounds of the 50 caliber guns of the drones hit the lizards, and it was very effective as it killed some of the lizards.

I didn't expect the drones to kill the lizard, I only expected that my drones would only slow down the advance, as I expected the lizards or the hatchlings to have a durable body, but it seems my calculations were wrong, their skin was not as strong as I expected.

The hatchlings were slowly falling down as my drones killed them as they slowly advance, but the bullets of my drone were running out. I was expecting the drones could hold out for an entire ten minutes, but it's bullets was totally not agreeing with us, so I ordered Xyra to go k******e and sent the drones to self destruct to slow down the enemy. As the drones were only able to slow down the enemy for five minutes.

Xyra immediately responded by sending the drones down to the enemy going towards my direction. Knowing this, I immediately planted the claymore mines as fast as I could, with the time becoming one of my enemies.

After three minutes I run out of Claymore mines, so I immediately turned back and run towards the direction of the camp. The minefield I set up had the size of about forty meters squared. I was able to do this large area, thanks to my speed and the easy setup method of the Claymore. But I don't even know if the size of the minefield I created was enough to slow down the approaching enemy, but I am hoping for the best.

After a few seconds, explosions suddenly resounded from the place where I planted the mines. Not only that, but black smoke and dust flew above the air as more explosions occurred in the distance. I was even able to hear the screech of the creatures from this distance as they die from the traps I set up.

I was then able to see the adventurers who were lined up, ready to defend the camp which they turned into a mini fort. I also saw the adventurer mages above the dirt wall, I immediately realize that those mages might provide heavy bombardment.

As I was going back to the other adventurers, Ann Marie looked at me with a murderous gaze. She was also holding her axe like she was about to swing at an enemy. Upon arriving at the adventurers that were lined up, Ann Marie strike me down with her axe which I immediately blocked using my left arm.

The adventurers saw this and were both amazed and worried about me. Ann Marie on the other hand scolded me.

“WHY ARE YOU TAKING OFF LIKE THAT! YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS YOUR ACTION WAS!”

After scolding me, Ann Marie Immediately told me to line up with the other adventurers in the defensive position, which was in front of the line.
