“Mr. Yardley. A word, please.” Several of his classmates cast Micah a glance as they gathered their books, but nobody said a word as they filed out of the lecture hall. At the dais, Professor Cornelius Simonsen nodded to each young man passing by, his kind dark eyes solemn as he regarded Micah’s approach. He was the favorite of all his teachers. Professor Simonsen had no patience for society’s so-called demands, and had been the first to encourage Micah to seek out Jefferson when he expressed interest.
