Jim sprinted back up the hill skirting round to the root cellar door. He knocked twice. “Reed, are you okay? Reed…” The door opened and an ashen faced Reed came out.
“I was so f*****g scared I’d never see you again. It was only fifteen minutes, yet it seemed like fifteen hours. I heard the shots, the cops should be here any moment and Bear’s on his way with a chopper. There is a heliport on the old lodge property.” Reed was babbling. Jim couldn’t fathom Reed babbling.
“Honey, calm down. It’s safe, I’ve got him pinned down on the deck. I heard the sirens on the way back to you. We’ve got back up. Now, let’s get you fixed up, then we’ll worry about everything else. Come on, hon, please,” Jim coaxed.
