Episode 1
Nadia was attempting to force herself to sleep. She had a long day, from domestic chores to going to the town's market for grocery shopping.
She hadn't had enough rest since she moved in with her present foster parents. She was given an abandoned room to sleep in.
It was a modest, cramped space with faded paint. The small window had a tattered curtain that was torn in places. The bed was just a thin mattress on a noisy metal frame. It was very uncomfortable for her but she had no choice. This was the only family that had agreed to take her in.
She was about to finally drift off when a sudden thud from the window disrupted her sleep.
With a tired sigh, she reluctantly pushed herself up from the bed and opened the window. It was her only friend, Rena.
"Rena!" She whispered. What are you doing here?
Rena grinned mischievously and whispered back, "Came to see you silly"
"It's late Rena, you shouldn't be here," Nadia replied, still half asleep.
"Help me up." Nadia helped Rena climb into the room.
"Thanks, your skin is glowing today. I guess no one scolded you."
Rolling her eyes, Nadia sat back on the bed.
"What are you really doing here, Rena?"
"Came to see my best friend. Why else would I be here?"
Of course, she wasn't there just to see Nadia and Nadia knew that so she just stared at her for a minute.
"Fine. I need someone to talk to. My dad is talking about how I'm old enough to have a mate."
"You'll surely meet your mate and he is going to love everything about you."
"Speaking of mates," she smiled and sat down beside Nadia, her eyes beaming with excitement. "Tell me about Julian."
"That's what you are really here for, right?" Nadia stated.
"You got me. Of course, that's what I'm here for. I couldn't believe my eyes when I heard Julian is your mate!"
"You could have come tomorrow. I was trying to get some sleep."
"How was I going to sleep with such news? Julian is the son of the Alpha. You know what this means, right?"
"That I'm about to get into a hot soup for making such assumptions."
"No silly. The moon goddess has finally heard your prayers. Your sufferings are about to be over. Think of the events that lead you towards Julian. Julian has lived in this town all his life, and all of a sudden, you felt the connection. That is the moon goddess at work."
"I'm afraid though. I'm just an orphan with foster parents that do not care whether I live or die. I'm called a freak wherever I go. Rena, I killed my parents with my bare hands…Would Julian ever want to associate with someone like me?"
"Does he have a choice? The moon goddess has chosen you for him. He has no choice but to accept"
"I want true love, Rena. I want my mate to love me. I want to feel what love is for once in my miserable life."
"You will…And you didn't kill your parents, Nadia, your wolf did. That is not your fault."
"My wolf and I are one. I just wish there was a way I could…" Tears circled her eyes as the thought of getting rid of her wolf hit her.
Nadia's inner wolf's name is Gena. She is a very dangerous wolf with no self-control. She comes out at will and can take over completely. To other shifters, their inner world brings so much strength, comfort and happiness to them, but to Nadia, Gena has brought nothing but sadness all through her life.
Gena was different from other wolves with bright red eyes which screamed evil and danger. Nadia was not just a shifter, but also something else that no one had been able to understand. Her abilities were different from her fellow werewolves.
On her 10th birthday, she had accidentally killed her parents and, ever since then, she has been moving from one foster home to the other. Her life had been filled with misery as it was widely known that she had murdered her parents, so every family she joined was weary of her. Thus, they maltreated her in every slightest way. She was more of a maid than a daughter to her foster parents.
"You are very beautiful, Nadia. Julian would be an ass not to like you." Rena tried to assure her.
"I'm 18. I've been living in this town for six years. He hasn't noticed me, not even once. What makes you think he would notice me now?"
"Don't think about that. The Alpha is an honourable man. He would want to obey the moon goddess. So, even if Julian disagrees, his father will convince him."
"I really don't want to be rejected. I've suffered way too much to be rejected by my mate." Nadia fearfully stated, tears trickling down her cheeks.
Rena leaned forward and pulled Nadia into a warm embrace, "He won't. I promise you."
"Thank you." Nadia whispered. You have to get going. It's already late. The woods are dangerous, especially at night."
"Okay. You'll be fine right?"
"Of course. I'll get back to my sleep."
"Alright. I'll see you tomorrow." Rena climbed out of the window, leaving Nadia alone with her thoughts.
As she laid back down, tears still streaming, she couldn't decipher whether they were tears of fear, facing potential rejection, or tears of joy at the thought of finally finding her mate.
Nadia stirred in her bed, the room still dark, as she awoke earlier than the sun, like she always did. Her daily chores awaited her, and she got up, trying not to make a sound. As she quietly dressed, the gentle morning light seeped through the curtains.
Just as she was about to slip on her shoes, a faint sound reached her ears. Footsteps, approaching their house.
"Who could be visiting at this hour?" She wondered as she tiptoed her way to the window and slightly opened the faded curtain.
Her breath caught as she saw the three figures approaching. It was Julian, her mate and his parents Alpha Killian and Luna Victoria. They were coming towards her house, their expression serious.
Nadia's heart skipped a beat as the thought of Julian coming to reject her as his maid plagued her mind.
"Oh my God! They are here." She whispered, her heart racing.
"Will you calm down?" Gena spoke inside of Nadia.
"Calm down? Don't you know what's at stake?"
"I'm your wolf Nadia. I'd feel the pain more than you would. I understand what's at stake but it's of no use panicking. We'll handle it like we always do."
"You are not handling anything Gena. I swear to the moon goddess, you better stay put. Do not come out no matter what." Nadia warned.
"I can't promise that. You might be a weakling but I'm not. Give me complete control over you and no one will ever step on your toes again."
"I'm not giving you any control. Whose fault was it that we are like this. You killed my parents!."
"I've never done anything out of my own will, I'm your wolf after all. We are one. I didn't kill your parents, you did. You summoned me to."
"I've never summoned you to kill anybody."
"I wonder how on earth I'm stuck with you. You don't deserve me at all. Stop getting angry if you don't want me to take charge. I can't stand it when you are angry or in pain because I'm also in pain too."
"Go back to sleep please."
"Make me."
"Please! I really don't want you to come out today."
"Fine, have it your way. Weakling."
"My Alpha, what brought you to my humble abode this early morning?" Nadia overheard her foster father's voice. She moved closer to the door, eavesdropping on their conversation.
"You have failed to caution your daughter." Julian started. "She will never be my mate!"
