CHAPTER ONE
SELENA
"I got the job!" I burst into my apartment yelling excitedly.
The past few months have been hard for me. As a new graduate with no working experience, it was extremely hard to get a job in a reputable company.
Coupled with the rejection from my mate, I was having an extremely hard time. But this job had come at a great time. I now had hope!
"Really?! I'm so excited for you, Selena!" A loud and familiar voice drifted into the room and I whirled around to see my best friend, Jenna, rushing out of the living room. Her arms caught around my waist and she giggled hysterically.
She pulled me into the house and made me sit down on the couch
.
"I'm so excited for you! Thank goodness you got the job!" She repeated. Her eyes were shining with excitement.
I could not keep the large smile out of my face either. I was also happy.
"Yeah, I'll start first thing tomorrow morning. I can finally get away from this place!"
This place held a lot of bad memories for me and I just wanted to forget about it.
The smile slipped off Jenna's face for a split second, and I almost apologize, but then she's back to her cheerful self like nothing ever happened.
"We should go celebrate your new job!" Although it sounded like s suggestion, I knew my best friend well enough. It was more than that.
I leaned back onto the couch.
"No. I don't think I can do that. I want to get prepared. I heard that the CEO of this company can be extremely difficult. I want to be prepared to face him on Monday," I knew that Jenna would never come up with any ideas that didn't involve getting into some kind of trouble.
She tugged on my arm, like she had always done since we were kids.
"Come on. You can't change anything by staying here to worry about him all day. But you can go have fun and get yourself in a good state of mind to face him on Monday. Do you think that you'd be fit to meet him if you spent the entire weekend worrying about the kind of person that he is?" She pouted, looking at me with puppy eyes.
I almost gave in, but then I was reminded of the countless times that I got in trouble with her.
"Who said I would spend the weekend worrying about him? I am going to spend the weekend finding out as much as I can about him. That way, I'll be prepared," I flashed her a large grin, and she rolled her eyes in mock anger.
"Oh please Selena. You and I know that you are just going to spend the weekend worrying. You've been through a lot in these past few months. With what happened with your mate and your step sister," Jenna takes a pause when she says this and she looks at my countenance.
I forced myself to not show any reactions, however, the betrayal of my sister and my mate was still clear on my mind.
On my graduation day, I had walked into see my sister and my mate having s*x. As if that was not enough, he has cruelly rejected me and told me that my sister's wolf was way stronger than mine.
Jenna blew out a breath. "I am sorry for that Selena. I should not have brought them up. They are both horrible people and they don't deserve your time at all," I knew Jenna was just trying to comfort me.
I forced a smile at her. "Don't worry about it. I am fine. I got over it," this was a lie, as I was having a hard time accepting that my own sister would be so cruel to me.
But I had to live with it. I had no choice.
"Anyway, this is why we should go out and celebrate! A new club just opened. We are going to have a lot of fun there. Perhaps, you might meet a stronger wolf than Clinton! He'll help you forget a bastard like Clinton ever existed in the first place," Jenna nudged me one last time.
I looked at her tiredly. "Do I really have to go with you?" I would give anything to fall into bed and just sleep. But knowing my best friend, she would not let that slide.
She grinned at me. "You know I'm not going to let you just stay here and rot. Especially when such a big thing happened to you. So get up and go get dressed. We are going to thr club!"
I sighed and got up. It was easier to go along with what she wanted than argue with her.
Besides, she made a good point. I finally got a job I so badly wanted. I should celebrate it while I could.
.....
Jenna and I walked into the club together. We were immediately hit by the blaring music.
I frowned. This was not my usual scene, but Jenna looked to be in her place. I decided not to complain and ruin her good time.
Since she wanted to have fun, I would stick with her for the rest of the night.
She pulled me along into the dance floor.
"Come on, let's go dance!" She called out, above the music.
I nodded my head as she pulled me into the dance floor. But we were soon seperated, as everyone was dancing and having a good time.
I sighed once again, then decided to let go and have some fun for myself.
All my bravado left my body as soon as I saw them though.
My former mate, Clinton and my step sister, Cynthia.
The both of them were dancing, and they weren't just dancing, they were having the time of their lives, grinding on each other.
I saw red, wanting to pull them apart and ask them why they did what they did to me. I used to think Clinton loved me and my sister really cared about me. But everything I knew a lot them had been shattered in just one night.
I blinked my eyes to hold back the tears, I desperately needed to get away from there...from the two people who hurt me. But I could not leave without Jenna.
I searched around for her and saw that she was dancing with a couple of guys on the dance floor.
One of them handed her a glass of wine and she chugged it down at once. She laughed and continued to dance.
I didn't want to stop her from having fun because of my own issues.
But I also needed to calm down or else I would end up doing something I would regret for the rest of my life.
I walked away from the dance floor slowly, heading for the bathroom. I thought to myself that I was just going to cry by myself until I felt tired and a bit better.
Then I would come out and we would leave.
At the end of the bar was a spiral staircase. I thought to myself that it probably led to the bathroom. There was no one to give me directions so I had no other choice than to trust my instincts and go with it.
I climbed the staircase, taking it a step at the time. All the loud music was making me light headed and I felt like I was going to fall down if I as much as took one wrong step.
The more I walked on the stairs, the more confused I was. I had no idea where I was going.
When I got to the end of the staircase, there was another hallway there.
I knew the hallway probably did not lead to any bathroom where I could cry my eyes out in peace but then, curiosity got the better of me.
I found myself walking on the hallway. At the end of the hallway, there was a room with a glass door and then another bend that led to, I had no idea where it led to.
I stood confused for a few seconds, and then I heard voices from the room with the glass door.
"The Blood Moon Pack is really bold. Did they think they'd get away with it?"
I gasped in a low voice. That was my pack! Why were they talking about my pack?!
The door clicked just then, and the handle turned. Someone was coming out!
I panicked. I had to get away! If someone saw me, I'd probably get in trouble.
I turned, looking for where to go. I looked at the bend, no one would find me there right?
Right?!
I did not have time to think. I made a run for it.
I went with the bend.
They were many other rooms with glass doors there. But one of the rooms didn't have a door.
I walked inside hurriedly. I looked around, for a good spot to hide, but my mouth instantly dropped open at the sight before me.
The entire room was made of huge glass fo window ceilings, and I could see the entire bar below me.
I could see the tiny dots of people having fun and dancing.
My heart beat fast against my chest. I had somehow found my way into the office of the owner of the club. I was sure of that.
I heard footsteps again, I immediately hid under the table. As long as I didn't make a single noice, he wouldn't find me here.
Right? I placed my hand on my chest to stop my heart from beating fast but it was not helping. I felt like my heart was going to drop into my stomach any second.
The footsteps got closer and closer untill suddenly.....it stopped.
"Come out now kitten, I can see you," the man's voice was sultry and there was a teasing effect to it.
I knew there was no point in hiding. I came out from under the table.
I was immediately met with the most gorgeous man that I had ever met in my life.
I almost drooled at the sight of him. How could a man be so good looking?
Whatever common sense I had left in me reminded me that I was still in trouble.
"What are you doing here, kitten? Don't you know you aren't supposed to be here?" He took a step towards me as he asked me this, effectively shooting up my heart rate once again.
I cleared my throat and tried to act unbothered.
"I could ask you the same thing you know. What are you doing here, hiding?" I retorted.
He laughed out loud, a rich musical laughter.
"But I am the boss here, how could I be hiding in my own office?"
In that moment, slamming my head on a wall seemed like a pretty good option. What was wrong with me?!
He smiled once again, and somehow, his smile calmed me down.
"Well, since we are both here, let's have a drink. You wouldn't mind, would you?"
He was asking me to have a drink! But why....I was intruding right?
He didn't give me a chance to respond. He stretched out his hand to me, and I took it.
As soon as my hand was in his, I felt a jolt of electricity run through me. A familiar feeling was coursing through my bones! It was the f*****g mate bond!
I felt the mate bond to him! I looked up at him, and the way his eyes widened told me he felt the mate bond too!
We have been mated to each other!
