Chapter 16: The Cellist at Work June 23, 20— 7:18 P.M. David sat between Richter and Jarr at Solomon Hall, illuminated only by lights from the stage housing the SEAO. Jarr thought the fifty-two member ensemble looked like a bunch of penguins at the front of the hall as they performed something by Matchbox Twenty mixed with Justin Bieber. According to the playbill, a medley of Lady Gaga tunes was going to be played next, which he anticipated. He noticed that David’s right knee was bouncing up and down to the rhythm and that Richter was dozing away, bored out of his mind. Ryan looked debonair on the stage with his man-size cello tucked between his limber legs. A smile rocked his face with pride. He was too far away from Jarr to return a wink, but he winked anyway, which Jarr didn't see.
