Chapter 21: Summer Job
June 16
The Sam Claflin look-alike sat across from David Miles in the bakery’s office. The owner of the bakery kept asking him the most ridiculous questions about his life. Hayden felt that he had to answer the menial questions to obtain a summer job at Cupcakes.
“Where do you currently live?”
“Here in Snowden. 392 West Curtain Road.”
“You worked at Allman’s Grocerette for six months?”
“I did. I was a cashier during my senior year at Snowden High.” Hayden tried to smile and look the black guy in his eyes, but he couldn’t. The man’s eyes were thick pools of black that he had found intoxicating, unable to stare into them for fear of becoming hypnotized and turned into a zombie. Instead, his view shifted to the bottom portion of the desk and consumed grey metal.
