Chapter 1 - Harley
"Please, Harley! Pretty please!"
Penelope asked me on the other end of the phone as I finished my lunch, cell phone propped between my shoulder and ear, as I spoke to my Werewolf friend.
"Jack keeps asking me when he'll see you again since we met at Sol's house last time." Jack or Jackson was her son who was about to turn three years old soon, and it was my godson too by her and Alexander's request, both of whom believed I would be the best person to take care of the little Werewolf if something happened to them.
"I know... He told me when we talked on the phone earlier," It was funny to hear the little one telling me the details of his party between his coiled words just like my nephew who was a few months older than him. "We can meet at my aunt's house next week since I'm going to visit my little cousin too."
My aunt Marisol, or Sol as Penelope called her, recently had a daughter, and even though we had no blood connection, I considered the little girl like my cousin, considering Marisol was the one who raised me along my brother when my mother was murdered, and my father disappeared after punishing the ones responsible for the crime.
"Please, Harley! Even the Sol will come to the party." Penelope continued to beg. "I had one idea! You can stay at the Pack's house, instead of Andres's, so you don't have to worry about meeting your soul-mate. I swear, Harley. I'll arrange everything so you don't need to go to town while you're here. Please, Harley. I- Jack really wants you to come!"
For a second, she revealed the truth about who wanted me to go to the party since the last time I had been in Mingan was when Jackson was born, and like Penelope mentioned I avoided going there because of my soul-mate who lived in that small town with her family, so nowadays, I would just meet Andrés and Cinthya, when both they and I go to visit Aunt Marisol.
"..." A sigh escaped my lips as I thought she was right, I wouldn't have to see them together if I stayed in the Pack's house. "... Okay, I'm going to Jackson's birthday. I hope you keep your promise, Alpha Penelope."
"Are you coming?!" I could even see the smile she should have on her face right now. "Of course! I'll arrange the best room in the house just for you."
She answered me before I heard her say to Jackson that I was going to his birthday party, making the puppy in the background scream several phrases like yeah, I can't wait to see Uncle Harley, and I'm going to play with Uncle Harley the whole afternoon.
Although he met me just a few times, Jackson was attached to me, just like my nephew Melton, who was also his friend, and both boys would always tell me about their adventures in the Pack's house with Sarah, Beta's daughter and her cousin, Kristian.
Honestly, I didn't know why the little ones liked me so much, but it probably had something to do with me allowing them to ride my bike with me or maybe the fact that sometimes I levitated them without their parents known.
... Maybe it was both things...
... With a smile on my face, watching everyone having fun, I was having a good time at the party as Penelope promised me. Jackson had introduced me to his best friends, including my nephew Melton, who stole Sarah's ballerina skirt, and little she-wolf didn't let it lie as she ran after him through the yard, making the adults laugh as they watched the puppies having fun...
It was late afternoon now, and most of the kids had gone inside to watch some Disney movie in the second-floor living room, leaving only the adults outside, were slower songs began to play and... Seeing the couples easily, reminded me of her smile...
Lottie wasn't a dancer, but she would always accompany me on slow songs when I invited her... She would whine trying to get to the rhythm, before accepting stepping on my feet allowing me to lead us, her figure was smaller compared to mine, so It was easy to dance with her on that way.
Her beautiful blue eyes would look at me angrily as she moved her head to the side, removing mine that leaned over hers, which she hated because it highlighted our height difference, but even so, the anger lasted a short time before one smile showed on her face, her black curls swaying to the beat of the music as she threatened to not dance with me anymore if I did that again.
... She would always say that...
Another song was starting to play, and I just wish I could dance with her one more time... Even if it was with her ghost, I wouldn't mind but I knew it was impossible... Even if we hadn't met yet, I knew she was once again in this world... Dancing in someone else's arms.
"Harley!" My Alpha friend called, giving me a bottle of beer while she drank of her own, driving me away from the depressing thoughts I was having. "Are you having fun?"
"Yes, I still don't believe how much Jackson and Melton have grown since the last time I saw them six months ago," I answered her before taking a sip of my drink.
"Please don't tell me... I still can't believe Jack is already three years old..." A smile on her face as she watched the little boy who looked like her copy, despite the tanned skin and blue eyes, chased his friends across the Pack's house's balcony.
"You don't gonna dance?" I asked when another song started playing, nodding my head in Alexander's way, who was standing next to his Beta talking about something with a smile on his face.
"Me and Alex?" I just nodded in return. "I'm saving it for tomorrow. Dad promised me to take care of Jack, so Alex and I could have a little date night."
She flushed slightly telling me that, even though the smile was all the time on her face before she was strangely quiet, taking another sip of her beer...
"... Do you want to ask me something, Penelope?" It was easy to see she had something on her mind that she wasn't telling me, Penelope wasn't the quiet girl type.
"..." She sighed before turning to me who was leaning against a tree on the other side of the pack's backyard, allowing me to see the party that kept going behind her. "Could you do me a favor?"
"... What kind of favor do you need, Penelope?" Honestly, I didn't know what she wanted to ask me.
"Could you dance with Eli for me?" She quickly asked me that I almost didn't understand what she said.
"Who?"
"Eli, Elizabeth, my best friend, and the Beta's sister. I told you about her before..." I could, easily, notice the frustration in her voice, she wanted me to remember about her friend as soon as possible.
"She's Kristian's mom, isn't she? Why doesn't her mate dance with her?"
"Eli hasn't met her Mate yet, and her fiance broke up with her a year ago when he met his Mate."
"Even so, I'm sure other guys would love to dance with her, I don't understand why you need to ask me that."
"... You know how Werewolves are territorial, right?" She sighed before asking me. "Even if she wasn't Caleb's mate, and that they've broken a year ago, the guys still don't dare invite her, actually... They even avoid being alone with her because they feel like they're doing something wrong as they're from the same Pack."
I knew that what she was talking about was true, and to be honest, that was the reason why my friendship with Alexander was a mystery to me as in the past, I saw Penelope as more than a friend...
"... Okay, I'll ask if she wants to dance with me." Those simple words were enough for Penelope to hug me with satisfaction as she told me that the next time we went out together would be her treat.
She left me alone after I asked where her best friend was... Easily, I spotted Elizabeth sitting on the balcony's steps, watching the other couples dancing, her expression saying she wanted to be doing the same.
... She was so distracted that she didn't even see me getting closer...
"May I have this dance, Señorita?"
... On that day, I didn't know how much my life would change due to this simple question... How much the presence of that She-wolf would affect me...
