CHAPTER NINE
“Will you take us there?” Ros asked him.
The captain shook his head. “I will not.”
My expression fell. “But you’re the only one who can get us there.”
“Then you will not be traveling to that island,” Fantoma mused as he puffed on his pipe.
Ros scowled at him. “Then you risk the lives of everyone who would stand against the King of Shadows.”
Fantoma stood and cast a sharp look down at us. “I decide when to risk the life of me and my men. Whatever fight you have with Umbria is none of my concern.”
“Even if that risk is to rid the world of evil?” I countered.
Fantoma shook his head. “I have something more important to keep me here, and the world can wait until I’ve found what I’m looking for.”
