CHAPTER SIX We stepped through the cold clamminess that lay inside the portal and found ourselves in a thick mess of woods. Tall trees surrounded us, and the bitter scent of pine invaded my nostrils. A cold sun hung in the cloudy sky over our heads, and a chill nipped my nose. What was with everything attacking my poor schnoz? A soft whoosh came from behind us, and both Ros and I turned in time to see the portal behind us vanish. I winced and looked up into his tense face. “I guess it was just a one-way trip.” He nodded. “So it would seem.
