Book 2 of The Choosing Mates Series

Stephanie Turner of Yellowstone Pack knew she had to be perfect. She had known it her whole life. She had to be brave and bubbly. She had know a lot about everything so the conversation never lagged. She had to have hobbies and enough interests that no one ever asked anything more, anything deeper. Because deeper scared her. Deeper was jagged and ugly - the opposite of perfect. She was intent on keeping the costume on. Until her mate striped her bare to worship every scar. Alpha Sebastian Carter of United Valley Pack knew his reputation. He was a perfectionist. He was ruthless. He murdered his lover. He ran a tight ship. He was the rock on which everyone depended so of course he was ruthless. He loved his pack more than anything. Especially more than himself. Which meant when The Moon Goddess reject his mating with his lover, he accepted it. He made the world think he was ruthless because it was easier than being weak. Until his mate showed him how to be vulnerable, not weak. Can the two finally place their perfect ideals aside to choose each other? Or if they will tear each other apart?

1. Hatred
Stephanie Turner knew hate. She knew a hatred so deep it had consumed her entire being, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. She vowed to never let hate consume her again. But Alpha Sebastian Carter was making that a difficult task to complete. Exactly one month ago he had stormed into her life like a hurricane and left nothing in his wake. Her life was broken down to its barest form. She was eating, sleeping and breathing. After he had forcibly removed her from Yellowstone Pack, dumped her into The Alpha’s house, that he didn’t even sleep in, and gave her a list of rules with a life plan, the hatred had started to creep in. The list went as follows: 1. We will eat dinner you have cooked every night, promptly at 19:30 2. You are not allowed leave the house unaccompanied by at least two of your guards 3. You are not allowed off pack grounds 4. You are not allowed to drive the cars in the garage 5. You are not allowed on any form of birth control 6. You are not allowed to food shop. Omegas will bring you groceries once a week. If you require anything specific, give a list to your guard 7. You are not allowed in the pack house until pregnant 8. You are not allowed to attend any parties 9. You may redecorate the house by online shopping 10. All online purchases will show on my banking app for approval 11. You may go for walks every day 12. You are not allowed to attend training 13. You may make and invite friends to the house under your guards supervision 14. You are not allowed to invite your guards into the house unless you have a guest or an emergency 15. You will receive an assistant for your luna duties that will begin after the marking ceremony so prepare the office accordingly The list was the most ridiculous thing she had ever seen in her entire life. He had not even handed it to her himself. It was left on the dining room table when he had dropped her at the house. More like kicked her out of the car before heading to the illusive pack house. The life plan was also in list form: • you need to make an appointment with the pack doctors for a full physical to check general and reproductive health • at the end of the summer we will have the marking ceremony • when your heat cycle begins, I stay in the house for the duration of your cycle • we will try for a pup immediately • once we have conceived, you will move into the luna suite in the pack house where we will all live • we will have 3 pups • once all three have turned 18, you may move back into The Alpha’s house and fill your time as you see fit Her situation had sent Steph into moping mode. For the past two weeks she had wallowed in bed, eating like s**t and binge watching Peaky Blinders. She would roll out of bed at 5 every evening to make a simple meal for her asshole mate and make herself barely presentable. Sitting across from him this evening for dinner, she was so tempted to reject him. She wondered why he hadn’t done it yet. Clearly he wasn’t interested in having her as his mate. So why keep her around. “No,” he broke the silence. She hadn’t asked a question. They weren’t in a conversation. If fact, they rarely spoke at all. “You will not reject me.” “I won’t?” She replied. He was controlling. She truly hated him. “You won’t. There will be consequences if you try. I also will not accept your rejection.” He kept eating the steak she made. He had informed her he liked it rare. She had made it so well done it was practically burnt. Yet he still ate it. “Consequences,” she mulled over the word, a smile gracing her lips. Her steak was beautifully medium rare as she cut into it. “I highly doubt you could make my life any worse than it is now.” “I think you would be surprised,” he kept chewing the piece he had been working on for a while. The dining room sat 12 people. 5 per side and one at each head. Steph had insisted on sitting as far away from HIM as possible. And he insisted on sitting at the head. So there they sat, 10 chairs between them at a fully set dining room table. She watched him eat, he never once looked up from his plate as he sawed at his steak. A smile graced his lips as he set his utensils down. “You are damn spiteful,” he looked at her for the first time since she opened the door ad 19:30 sharp. Steph had a combative personality. She knew it. She would clash with him. She would bring this dickhead to his knees before her. She was waiting for him to say something, to light the match that would catch onto the fuse. She was the bomb, just waiting to blow up his entire life. She had done more for less. He had no idea what lay under the surface. A wicked smile pulled her lips. But she said nothing as she kept cutting into her steak. He stood from his chair and walked with the plate, throwing down next to hers. Steph casually leaned back in her chair to look up at him. “I don’t cook,” was all she said. “Really?” He took her fork to stab a piece of her steak. She watched in fascination as he lifted it to his lips, pulled it off with his teeth, chewed and swallowed. The world was silent as the two stared each other down. Oh how she would make this man crumble. This stupid f*****g stake was what she needed to pull her from her wallowing. “Because this is perfect.” He put her fork down. “Serve me a steak like that again and I will spank you so hard you’ll have to stand at dinner for a week.” “Bite me,” she growled. His hand snapped around her throat so quickly yet she didn’t flinch. His grip was tight but not enough to bruise. “Oh Wild Fire, how I intend to.”
