CHAPTER FIVE The next morning, Von sat on the deck with a cup of coffee and a bagel. This was his favorite spot in Indigo Bay, and it was all his. Buying his parents’ house after they retired had been his smartest move ever. Remodeling it himself, his second. He sipped the strong, hot liquid. That would keep him going with a ten-plus hour day ahead of him, but for now he could relax and enjoy the view. Waves rolled to shore, the sound a soothing and constant presence twenty-four hours a day. The breeze rustling through the grass on the dunes picked up. He tucked his napkin under his plate so he wouldn’t have to chase after it. Only one jogger had passed by so far. No dog-walkers out yet. Good. Von enjoyed the solitude. He took another sip.
