“Couldn’t you have told her no?” Maya asked. “I can’t believe Tyler’s still dating her.”
“We both know why.”
“He has to stop punishing himself like this, for everyone’s sanity.”
Yeah, well, Tyler didn’t see it that way. He’d f****d up five years ago when one stupid mistake cost him his fiancée, and he’d been self-flagellating ever since. The mistake? He’d drunkenly let slip that he didn’t like Juliette’s father—who, let’s face it, was a complete jackass—and the man had overheard. Next thing they knew, he’d begun cancelling the wedding he’d paid for, and rather than settle for a smaller ceremony, Juliette had freaked out and called the whole thing off.
“Maybe in time…”
“How long does he need? Can’t you—”
