“Take a deep breath, and exhale steadily as you put your face in the water. Keep one hand on the edge of the pool.”
“What if I go under?”
“You’re wearing a floatation device, sweetheart. You can’t sink.”
Ari was back in Seagrass Point. For two irrational days, Zach had been worried that she was gone for good, especially when she didn’t show up for dinner on Friday, but when he cracked and called her, it turned out there was an accident on the interstate. A semi had overturned, and there were eggs all over the road. “Cooking on the damn asphalt,” Ari said on the phone. “I won’t get there for hours.”
