Elliot glanced at the time, calculating how soon he’d have to leave if he wanted to make it back to Seattle at a reasonable hour. He was still mad at himself for coming all the way out here. Grandma Lucy hadn’t told him anything he didn’t already know.
Some people God healed.
Some people he didn’t.
And if Grandma Lucy couldn’t explain how or why God chose to heal who he did, there wasn’t a soul on earth who could.
It was even worse with Ruby here. When he first saw her, he thought for a split second it might work out best if they pretended to have never met, but there she had stood, smiling at him sarcastically.
Was she teasing him even now? Even after all these years?
Why had he come out to Orchard Grove? There was nothing for him in this town.
