CHAPTER 7 Ruby was in the bedroom with Grandma Lucy when Connie bustled in from outside. “Welcome to Safe Anchorage Farms, where you come in as a friend and walk out as family.” Connie’s spiel to visitors always bugged Ruby. It sounded like she was trying to initiate them into some sort of cult. “Is that Brad out there?” Grandma Lucy asked. She had spilled some tea down her blouse at lunch, and Ruby was helping her change. “I think it’s the doctor you met in Seattle,” Ruby answered. “Brad’s in Costa Rica, remember?” She’d met Connie’s son briefly the night he brought Grandma Lucy into the hospital to get those stitches, but he’d been out of the country by the time Ruby started working at Safe Anchorage.
