~Wayne
I left the bathroom and immediately felt a stir in my pants, prompting a groan. Andrea had dozed off on the bed, her shirt unintentionally raised above her well-shaped hips. She appeared both appealing and innocent. I stood there, lost in thought, and captivated by her beauty. It's been a while since I've felt this attracted to someone.
As Andrea stirred in bed, stretching and yawning, I remained still, captivated by her beauty. "I'm sorry, is something wrong?" she inquired, rubbing her eyes for clarity and giving me a closer look.
I didn't know what to do in that moment, feeling uncertain about my state of mind.
"You don't have to worry. Get a good night's sleep, and we can discuss more tomorrow morning," I reassured her.
She seemed puzzled initially but nodded in response. I quickly left her room, using it as a chance to catch my breath.
I haven't felt like that in a long time and it was making me feel uneasy. “I can't let her affect me. I can't betray Mara,” I reminded myself.
I didn't know what to do anymore and just decided to make my way back to the room where Dean was already waiting at the doorsteps for me.
“What happened?” I asked, unlocking the door and we both entered for a more private area to discuss.
He took a deep breath and handed me an invitation card. I opened it and was surprised to know that it was an invitation to a banquet. They hadn't celebrated the banquet after the incident and I didn't even think much about it as it brought back so many memories.
“I'm not going,” I tossed it outside, losing my shirt. Dean stared at me and I knew that he was trying to find a way to come up with something.
“I know that you don't want to go,” he began saying but I just stayed quiet, acting like I didn't hear him. “But think of this as a perfect opportunity. You can use it to showcase Andrea as your queen.”
I knew that he had a point but I couldn't figure out any way to justify it as it only brought back unwanted memories.
I walked past him, making my way over to the shelf. “I'm not interested in the banquet and I'm sure that there are other ways that I can introduce her to the public.”
He didn't say anything for a moment and then spoke up, “I know you're traumatized by what happened but this would be a good way to finally shut the public up.”
He had a good point but I still couldn't summon the courage no matter how hard I tried to convince myself that I was over it.
“I hope that you'd find it in you to let go of the past,” he patted my back gently and then walked out leaving me alone in my thoughts.
I groaned out of frustration, disassembling everything that was on my desk. I just couldn't deal with it anymore and wanted a break, I needed a break from it all.
My eyes darted over to the picture of Mara who was seated in the drawer next to my bed. I looked at it with a smile and started caressing it gently.
“I would've never imagined that it would all come to this Mara. You were the one that I longed for, the one that I needed, and now you're gone.”
I tried hard not to cry. There was no use crying as I had realized that it wasn't going to bring her back and rather it was better for me to just accept it.
But moving on from her is something I won't do even with the attraction I'm suddenly feeling with Andrea.
“Wayne,” Andrea called, snapping me out of my thoughts and I looked up to see that we'd arrived at the hall where the banquet would take place.
“We're here,” she said in a whisper-like tone. Her voice sent thrills down my spine, I didn't know how to react to it and just nodded in response to her.
“We should get going then.”
The chauffeur opened the door for us. We got out and I took a deep breath, trying hard not to let any memories of what happened in the past keep playing over and over in my head.
“Are you alright? You look very nervous,” Andrea noticed my anxiety and was about to touch my forehead but I was quick to stop her.
“Just play along,” I told her. I grabbed her by the waist, pulling her closer to me and surprisingly enough she didn't even object.
“Welcome Your Majesty.” A group of people all chorused as soon as we both stepped into the hall.
I smiled at them as my way of returning their greeting and made my way into the hall alongside Andrea. The hall hasn't been used for any banquet after the event that took place three years ago.
People started bowing to us as we both made our way to the chair that had been properly ordained and prepared for us. I'm sure Dean informed them that I'd be coming with a plus one after I informed him I was going.
“You're lucky. You have people who love and adore you,” Andrea said, clinging to my arms and it was quite easy to tell that she was a nervous wreck.
A smile appeared at the side of my lips, reminiscing over her words. I loved my empire and people but all that doesn't matter now that she's gone.
We arrived at the seat and we both took our chairs. The rest of the people sat down while we were on the aisle. I could tell that she was getting anxious just by the stares.
But that's the price that comes with power.
“You'd be fine,” I whispered in her ear.
She turned to me, giving me a reassuring smile and it somewhat reminded me of Mara. I immediately looked away from her, surprised by what caused such.
“Are you okay?” She asked again.
I nodded in response and got up from my chair. “Attention everyone,” I used my spoon to cling to my glass getting their attention.
“I know you're all wondering who this damsel is and I'm happy to announce that she's my fiance and future queen of the empire.”
With that, everyone gasped.
