I stopped briefly at Quiznos the next Saturday to check on Lisa, or so I told myself. It wasn’t to see if Lindsey would drop in, by chance. Nope. I was simply checking on her welfare. When Lisa saw me, she squealed and moved from behind the counter to embrace me. “I hoped you would come by.” She stepped back and told me to take a seat. “I’ll bring your usual in a minute. It’s on me, remember?” I tried to protest, but she shooed me outside. I shrugged and sat in my usual spot after removing my jacket since it was quite warm. I was happy that she seemed to be doing fine and wasn’t too traumatized, at least on the outside, from her experience the week before. Five minutes later, she arrived with my two sandwiches and two cups of water, one for her. She sat across from me and took a sip. “
