Chapter Five Marcus Steepling my fingers under my chin, I sighed at the sound of her heels clicking on the marble floor as she made her way to her desk. I wanted to go to the door to watch her, to ask her how things had gone with Louis. That felt too forward, too rushed. I liked to study things, to take my time. She deserved that, the seduction. I couldn’t rush this for myself or Louis, he was mine to protect. I needed to know how she had gotten along with him. I wouldn’t pursue her if she couldn’t accept him. Dragons didn’t have fated mates. If we did, though, I knew that he would be mine. That he had been mine since the moment I’d laid eyes on him so long ago. He’d given me a purpose and a goal when I was struggling with being thrust into a role that was more than I could bear. I had just thought I had more time, my mother’s passing had been hard on my flock. Women didn’t lead, but after my father had passed. She had taken his role in guiding our flock until she had passed when I was still a young man. Too young to really lead, but they had needed me. With Louis, I could be myself. He needed me, but he needed all of me and he’d given me the greatest gift anyone could ask for. “Sir?” Amelia asked as she tapped on the frosted glass of my door, pulling me from my thoughts. “Yes.” I asked, clearing my throat. “I noticed you didn’t get any lunch. Did you want me to grab you something or is there anything you’d like me to do?” She asked, her words a rushed babble. Brining my hand up, I hid my smile. There was something she could do for me. I had a feeling that HR wouldn’t be too happy if I asked my new assistant to kneel before me. To tell me what she liked as I stroked her cheek. My fingers trailing down to tease along the opening of her blouse. Feel the soft skin of her breasts as I touched her with feather-light, teasing strokes. Before wrapping my hand around her neck and pulling her into a kiss that would let her know who she belonged to. “No thank you, Amelia.” I picked up a file and held it out to her. She walked closer, taking the folder from my hand. “If you could scan these.” “I can do that, Mr. Blackwell.” I liked when she called me sir, liked it when she called me Mr. Blackwell. I couldn’t help but wonder how my name would fall from her lips. Would she be breathless and gasping as I brought my hand down to swat her bare bottom? I had the feeling that I would be. My pulse quickened and warmth spread over my skin, I thought about her eyes flashing as she looked up at me. My dragon liked the idea. “Sir?” She asked, I realized that I had spaced out. “Hmm?” “Was that all you needed?” She asked, her tongue darting out to moisten her lower lip. I had to fight back a groan as I shook my head, “No, that will be all.” She nodded before turning around and leaving me alone. I didn’t know why, but I wanted to call her back to me. Something about Amelia made me crave her presence. Closing my eyes, I let out a sigh as I pulled my phone from my vest pocket. I’d find out how lunch had gone with Louis. I hoped that he felt the same pull that I did, that his dragon had felt the same pull. That she could be ours. I opened my eyes. My fingers moved across the screen as I typed out a message to him before pressing send. Sitting the phone face down on my desk, I closed my eyes and rubbed my fingertips over my eyelids. I wouldn’t stare at the screen waiting for his response, I was stronger than this. My phone buzzed and I picked it up, opening my eyes as I swiped the screen. Louis: She takes my breath away. Looking at the screen, I couldn’t help the grin that spread across my face. My mate liked Amelia, I could only hope that she liked him too. After sending him a quick message, I picked up the dossier and looked through the pages. Studying the statistics to see if this was a company that I could use to our advantage. The financial aspect of it seemed like it would be a good investment for us. Setting the folder down, I swiveled my chair towards my computer, researching the owners that I would be meeting tomorrow. I couldn’t help the way my thoughts drifted back to her and the way that she had peeked over at me in the elevator this morning. With a groan, I set the folder down and stood up, grabbing my jacket as I headed towards the door. I just needed to move for a bit. That would settle my dragon until later. He longed to go after her. Just as much as I did.
