14: Lies

2274 Words
Hayfah and Fareeha slept on the bed, without sharing some words. Only Hayfah's sighs could be heard, Fareeha knew she needed some time to absorb the whole situation in her brain, and so she gave her the space. It was Subh prayer time; Fareeha patted Hayfah's shoulder softly and muttered "It's time for prayer, Hayfah, wake up," she said as she sat upright. "I'm already up, I couldn't sleep, Her words kept ebbing in my mind, the scene have been reminiscing in my brain. It hurts, so much, that I couldn't believe all this happened to me in the blink of an eye," came Hayfah's husky voice, it was laced with sheer pain and sadness. Fareeha heaved a sigh, she knew what her friend might be thinking of, she knew how this might hurt. What would hurt more than your mother accusing you? Throwing you out of your home? She took Hayfah's hands in her's, together; they stood upright. She placed her hands on her shoulder, sympathetically looking at her "Look, Hayfah, I know how this would hurt, you weren't expecting this in your whole life. That's the meaning of destiny, we have to take it as it comes to us, wether good or bad. I'm sorry, it has to hurt, but do act like a normal person, please," Fareeha cajoled, her sleepy voice craking. Hayfah slumped her shoulders in defeat, the tears she had been holding rolled down her cheeks, she was in an unvocalized pain, she herself couldn't assimilate how she's feeling. "You would never understand, Fareeha. I too couldn't assimilate the pain in my heart, all I knows of is; this heart, beneath it's ribcage, hurts, it's etched with pain," she whimpered, her voice sounding huskier. Fareeha held her hand and sat them down on the bed, she looked at Hayfah with her doe-like eyes "Their got to many heartbreaks and disappointment in this life. Some might change you into a different person, you just have to be inured to the pains and move on. You couldn't realise how strong you are, until you're left with no choice. You're brave, you can do this!" Fareeha conjectured, fleetingly smiling at Hayfah. Hayfah nodded her head and sauntered to the bathroom, she took her bathe, perform ablution and exited the bathroom. Her face was all red, eyes swollen from lack of sleep, lips chapped, and body weak. Fareeha entered the bathroom, leaving Hayfah in the room getting reading. She wore a loose ankara gown, put on her knee-length hijab and started her subh prayer. She made some recitations of the holy Qur'an as Fareeha went down stairs to brought them break fast; since it was pass 7. They had their breakfast in a hushed silence, everyone lost in his world. Hayfah looked up to Fareeha, a gratuitous smile plastered on her lips. "Thank you so much, Fareeha. I think I'll go back now, I don't want her to implement some lies again. I don't like always seeing the bad side of her, but she forced me," Hayfah spoke, as her voice was laced with fear and pain. "It's okay, Hayfah. I understand your situation, just know that; no matter how, I'll always be there for you. Let's go down, I think the driver is back," Fareeha said as she stood up, taking Hayfah's box with her, as they ascended the staircases. They met Momma in the living room, exchanged pleasantries and sauntered out, after Hayfah bid her adieu. She was a nice and shrewd woman, she didn't ask for more explanation__for now. Hayfah entered the car, her heart beating vigorously as they zoomed off, approaching their area. She heaved a sigh she didn't know she had been holding, when the driver halted in front of their house. She thanked him and weakly dragged her trolley inside. She heard some voices, speaking in high and angry tone. If she wouldn't be mistaking__it was Umma's and Abba's voices. She silently salaamed, her head ducked down, tears washing down her face, as her legs tremulously dragged her to where Abba stood__fuming with rage. He swiftly held her in his hands,as his eyes began scrutinizing her whole body. "What happened to you, Hayfah? Why would you leave just like that? Where did you slept yesterday?" He asked, his voice was laced with sympathy. Hayfah broke down in tears, she hugged him, clutching his shirt as she spoke "Abba, it wasn't my fault, she accused me, called me names, and threw me out of the house. Don't believe any of her words, Abba, they're all lies," she was choking and gasping for breathe, upon seeing Abba; the pains triggered afresh. He stroked her back in a placating way, guiding them to the sprayed mat, "It's okay, Hayfah. How would you think that I will believe what she said? I knew they were all lies. I'm so sorry, I wasn't there for you. Wipe away your tears, and tell me what exactly happened, and where you spent your night, " came Abba's placating voice, his eyes were mist with tears, as seeing Hayfah like this shattered his heart. Hayfah sat upright, Tahir brought her a cup of water, she gulped it down and wiped away her tears. Abba and Tahir sat close to her, Tahir's gaze was making her uneasy, she knew it was the protective-brother mood. She narrated all that happened, as tears were rolling down hysterically, her body shaking, pain etching her heart, "Malik took me to Fareeha's home, I slept there, and their driver brought me back," she uttered the last words, as she dug her face on Tahir's chest, sobbing hard. They all kept mum, Umma was seething with rage, how dare Hayfah? Where did she get the courage from? How could she prove her words wrong? How? Abba was silent, his heart was beating with an uneasy step, how could Shafa'atu do this to his daughter? Accusing her, calling her a w***e, and worst of it; throwing her out of the house! Amna's heart almost got out of it's ribcage when she called her name, she knew when Abba wears that expression, the outcome wouldn't be anything close to nice. Tahir was seething with rage, how could Umma do this to his sister? What if something happened to her? Doesn't she have a sense of empathy in her heart? Isn't she her daughter? Was it because of her voice? Ya Allah! This got him bamboozled. "Shafa'atu, meet me in our room. Amna, this wouldn't stop here," that was all Abba's wrathful voice could utter, as he trudged to their room, Umma tailing behind; as her heart was beating with fear. She once knew this side of Abba. "I'm sorry, Hayfah, you have to went through this alone," Tahir cajoled, as he wiped Hayfah's tears with his thumb. Hayfah smiled ruefully at him, before they heard Amna's shaky voice "Hayfah, I'm so sorry you had to went through this. She just exaggerated the whole th....," she was cut off by Tahir's shout. "Would you shut that filthy mouth of yours and leave this please?! You're the source of all this," he clamoured, flashing her an infuriated look. Without a word, Amna prowled to their room, tears rolling down her cheeks. She was worried about Hayfah, and couldn't even sleep. Hayfah smiled genuinely, atleast__ she has someone to count onto__apart from Abba. She side hugged Tahir, and muttered "It was good having you by my side, I couldn't be more grateful__Hamma Tahir," resting her head on his shoulder, sleep began drifting her off. Back in Abba's room, Abba was roaming to and fro, his heart was paining, just a mere imagination of Hayfah being thrown out of his house was scourging, not to the anguish tears he saw on her face. "What has gotten into your head? Tell me, what kind of madness is this?!" He inquired thunderedly, his eyes were turned into red, as he was fuming with rage. "What do you mean, Talhah? How dare you say I'm mad because of our daughter? Are you blind? Or haven't you noticed the changes I saw in her? What has gotten into your head? Were you blinded by her love?!" Umma retaliated defensively, she didn't want to overreact, as the other side of Abba wasn't pleasant to think of. "Point of correction__my daughter! You've already lost that right, right from the instance you accused her, called her a w***e, and absurdly threw her out of the house. That's the most invigorating act you would forever do in your miserable life!" Abba roared, as he took enigmatic step towards presumptuous Umma. "Talhah, mind your language when talking to me, and how dare you call my life miserable? You were the one living a miserable life, full of regrets!" Umma bellowed, her voice shaking. She felt a pang of fear pierced her heart, as the monstrous Abba approached her more. He raised his hand high up in the air, and was ready to slap her, when her words halted him "Don't you dare, or else__you knew how mischievous I can be," she spoke enigmatically and majestically sauntered off, she knew his greatest weakness. *** Adyan was sleeping peacefully, a fleeting smile on his face, when his phone's ringtone woke him up. He hissed and slowly squinted his eyes, looking up to the phone 'Sorella mia' popped out, he smiled and answered the call. "Hey, Mom, I was sleeping when you called first. How're you and...," he couldn't complete his sentence, when he heard her silent sobbing, that woke him up completely, the sleep he had in him vanished in a thin air. "Mom! What happened? Why are you crying? Talk to me please," he asked petrified, tears started to glisten his eyes, his Mom is his great weakness. "Your Dad, he's seriously sick, for almost a month now, Adyan. He has been diagnosed with serious Hypertension, and a great possibility of having stroke, his heart also is at the verge of having an attack. What should I do? Kassim isn't answering my phone calls, you're the only one I have. Don't let him die please, I couldn't take it, everything is hard on me," she informed, crying hysterically, breathe shaking. Adyan's phone almost slipped out of his hold, he felt a pang of pain, fear, and anxiety in his heart. How could he imagine his Mom living in a distraughted state? His Dad fighting for his life? What kind of a son is he? "Look Mom, you need to stop crying, aren't you that strong woman I knew? Be strong as always, please. How could I be able to handle the situation, when you're in this state? You're my weakness Mom. Kassim has to come back home," he whimpered, silent and painful tears rolling down his cheeks. Why is life so hard on him? "He isn't answering my calls, I need you, Adyan, I can't handle all these alone. I might get an attack too. It's too much for my brittle heart," she elaborated, looking at Dad's sleeping figure beside her. "I would write my mid semester exams next week, but I'll call Kassim to be at home today. I'll see what to do in two weeks time, just be strong Mom, please. I want to talk to him," he slurred the last words, his voice was sounding impotent. "He's sleeping. Do find us a solution please. I need to go, the doctor needs to see me," with that, she hang up. Not that there was a Doctor waiting for her, but she couldn't withstand seeing them in this situation. He heart stiffened in neuroses, many what ifs bloating in his heart. He cried, an ocean of tears. His parent were his world, he couldn't imagine his life without them in it. It suddenly somersaults in him, that Mom needs a shoulder to cry on, without hesitation; he dailed Kassim's number. He picked on the fourth ring "Hey brother! What's up?" His introvert voice emerged. "What kind of a son are you? How could you ignore her calls? When you aren't calling her yourself? Did you for once imagine the pain she is in? How would you do that? She needs you, he needs you, they both needs you!" Adyan bellowed, his voice was laced with sheer anguish and pain. "Hey! It's just lies! She sent me a text, it's just a way of shanghaing me to go back home. Don't pay heed to her namby-pamby talks please," Kassim spoke and shrugged his shoulders, emanating he didn't care. "She isn't lying! The man that gave birth to you, sacrificed his life for you, spent every penny of his on you; is there lying down unconscious, fighting for his life! Do yourself a favour and go back home, or else, you'll have the regret of your life!" Adyan shouted and banged his fight on the bed side lamp, making it shattered into shards. "Adyan...are you talking to me like that? What if I said I would not go?," Kassim spoke haltingly, suddenly feeling frustrated. How dare Adyan say all those things to him? He haven't forgotten. "Then stop considering me as your brother, stop seeing her as a mother material, and do change the name you're bearing with. Such an indigenous ingrateful person you are! I hate you!!!." Forgive my typos, I promised to update that's why I haven't edit it. And also...I will reply to all your comments Insha Allah
