another chance

Leo stepped out of the cut-out board after Zaiden walked past it. He was pleased with himself for being successful in hiding from Zaiden. Placing his hand on the cut-out board, he gazed at Zaiden getting further and further. “This man has really turned scary,” he murmured to himself and turned his head towards the cut-out board, but he winced and took a step back. It was Zaiden’s cut-out board that he was hiding behind and even placing his hand on. “What the hell? How can he scare me even with his cut-out board?” He gritted his teeth.  He gasped deeply trying to calm down. “There is no need to be terrified, Leo. You are here for a job. Focus on it…” He cleared his throat. “But I must say you saved me from yourself,” he mumbled, smiling at the cut-out board. “Leo!”  The sudden loud voice of Kai startled him and made him step back before turning towards him. “Yes… yes… Mr. Kai,” he stammered. “Where the hell were you? I have been searching for you for a long time.” “I… I am sorry, Mr. Kai. I was bored sitting ideally. So I was roaming around the building.” “Seriously? Are you here to roam around?” he sounded furious. Leo lowered his head shaking right to left. “I am sorry.” “Fine… fine… you are a bodyguard. Keep your head high and follow me. Emma is here.” Kai turned around and started to walk. Leo did as he said and followed him keeping his head high. Kai knocked on the door twice before walking into Emma's office. “Emma, your bodyguard is here,” Kai announced soon after stepping in. As Leo stood beside him, the chair spun around and there sat a heavenly beauty with enchanting amber eyes. When a smile appeared on her face it added more essence to her grace. Leo was literally drooling over her charm when the lady standing beside Emma stepped towards them. “Hey, Beth!” Kai greeted her.  She didn’t reply and carefully glanced at Leo from head to toe. Seeing that his eyes were still fixed on Emma, she snapped her fingers in front of his face. Leo winced and came back to his senses. In embarrassment, he lowered his head. “Done drooling over her beauty? Are you sure you are going to be her bodyguard not her fan? If you are not sure you better back off now as we don’t hire fans,” Beth stated, folding her arms. “Fan? Ptf!” Leo snickered and in a low tone murmured, “I don't even know who she is.” “What?” she questioned, leaning her ear close to him. “Um I said, I am not her fan. I am here to take my job as a bodyguard.” “You…” suddenly Emma got up slamming her hand on the desk. “What do you mean by you are not my fan? Do you even know who I am?” Leo scratched the corner of his forehead. “Um! Am I going to lose my job if I answer no?” “I am done with him. I don’t want this bodyguard,” Emma declared, folding her arms and looking away. Leo panicked hearing her. “No, no I cannot lose this job,” he mused, rubbing his forehead in nervousness. “I think you should stop being picky. Three bodyguards have already resigned from working with you before. Do you still think you can be picky?” Kai raised a question. “You… how dare you to talk to me that way?” Emma pointed towards him in anger. “I… I think Kai is…” “Don’t you dare to take his side, Beth! You are my manager not his,” Emma exploded. “I just don’t want you to get in trouble,” Kai mumbled frowning. “Trouble! my foot. I don’t want him and that is final.” Helplessly, Kai averted his gaze towards Beth. She took a deep breath and nodded. Then she made her way towards Emma. Leaning close to her ear she whispered, “Don’t you think we should keep him?” “I am telling you not to take their side,” she bellowed. “Listen to me first,” Beth said and whispered again, “you know very well you cannot be picky. This will be the fourth bodyguard and if you don’t keep him the management might get involved causing trouble for you. So why not play around with him for a while and make him resign by himself?” “What do you mean?” Emma showed some interest in her words. “See, he seems to be a person with a bad attitude. Let’s give him some hard time and fix his attitude? What say?”  As Emma turned her head towards her, she raised her brows. “Are you in?” “You are awesome…” Emma whimpered giggling and hastily turned towards Kai and Leo. “Fine, fine I am keeping him.” “You have to even if you didn’t want to,” Kai murmured in a low tone which they didn’t hear for sure but Leo who was standing beside him heard it all clear. So he turned his gaze toward him. “Am I in trouble working for her?” he questioned in a low tone. Kai turned to him and smiled. “I pity you.” “What do you mean?” He knitted his brows in confusion. Kai didn’t reply and walked away.  “Mr. Kai, can you tell me what you mean by that?” Leo turned to him, questioning but he replied nothing and exited the office. Tensely, he turned towards Emma and Beth. Both were gaping at him with girn. “So, are you ready for your job?” Emma questioned, giving sinister smile. Gulping hard Leo nodded. “Great, let me check your strength then. Go and get me cold coffee,” she instructed. Leo nodded thinking, “what is there to see strength while bringing coffee?”  He was about to leave but suddenly Beth said out, “the cafeteria is on the first floor.” Leo nodded again and as he had reached the door, Emma said, “and make sure you use the staircase.” “Huh?” He turned to her in shock. “The elevator is under construction,” she replied. “But it was…” “I said it already, use the staircase no more words. Leave,” Emma suddenly retorted. Gritting his teeth, he left the office.  “This is f*****g tenth floor. I have to walk all the way down, God! Shower some mercy,” Leo whined, hiking the stairs one after another. Finally reaching the first floor he got the coffee and standing at the end of the stair, looked up. Feeling exhausted he scanned around the place. He raised his eyebrows seeing other people using the elevator. “Okay, so that was to trick me?” he muttered and headed toward the elevator. “Here!” He placed the coffee on the table. “How come you got here this early?” Emma grew suspicious. “While you wanted to see my strength so I am showing it to you,” Leo replied mockingly. “You used the elevator?” she glared. “I…” Leo grew nervous. “I told you distinctly not to use the elevator. Still, you used it.” “But it was not under construction. Everyone was using it. So what is wrong with using it?” He scratched his head. “How dare you talk back to me? Watch your mouth if you don’t want to lose your job,” she warned. “I am sorry.” Leo lowered his head. “Fine, I am giving you another chance. Go and get me some chai salad.” “Again I have to walk down and upstairs?” he whined. “Do you want this job or not?” she slammed her hand on the table. “I am going…” he said and rushed out. As he got the packet of Chai salad, he made his way back. He glanced at the stairs for a while and then at the elevator. A wide grin appeared on his face. “If you want to trick me. I can trick you in many other ways,” he mused and sat on the stairs. He glanced at his watch for a while. After the calculation of time, he got up and stepped into the elevator. With the ‘ding’ sound the elevator door opened.  He had just stepped out of it but he froze seeing Emma glaring at him from a few distances away. “Um! I…” He scratched his head not knowing if he should get back to the elevator or walk to her.
