God damn it! I really hate my life sometimes. It feels like I'm a container where everyone can throw all the s**t they don't want to take care of themselves. And that's exactly how I feel about Ossy's requests.
One day. Kite has been here one day and she had already missed her two first classes and I had to escort her for the next three. I knew Kite could be a bit of a rebel, but seriously, that's a bit extreme even by my standards. I'm not on vacation here, people!
"Why are you huffing? Did I do something wrong again? I stopped leaving wet towels on the floor like you asked." - Rob asked exiting our bedroom and watching me carefully. Am I really that hard on him, that he has to second guess his every move? Although some of his bachelor habits are utterly unacceptable and even the mate bond won't make me let it slide. But damn, I should work on my work-life balance if he's so worried about simple air puffing.
I smiled weakly at him.
" No, Baby. Everything is fine. Actually, you are the only one I can rely on lately." - I admitted.
"So what is it? Is it about your first class with both twins?"
Great, I completely forgot about this! Now I have even bigger things to worry about than Kite Springer.
"Actually no, but thanks for the reminder." - I said sarcastically - "I was actually thinking about Kite. She's a handful one. Missing classes on her first day and all. I even heard she's taking that damn pet everywhere she goes."
"Did she say why?" - Rob raised his surprised brows.
"Yup, she wanted to unpack. But if she would have come here when she was supposed to she would be long done with this."
"Don't be so hard on her. That was actually really reasonable." - Rob pointed out, but seeing my grimace he decided to come up with a solution - "How about we let her be for today and see if she will get into trouble. If she does, I will escort her to her every classes tomorrow." - he offered.
"You would do that for me?" - I asked really moved. He didn't have to, in fact it was me who promised this to Ossy, but Rob was the best Mate in the world, minus the disgusting habit of leaving his crap on the floor.
"Sure I would. I have known her since she was little… well smaller than she is now. Maybe she'll listen to me. Besides, we're the team, right?" - he said with that dashing smile that makes me putty in his hands.
I put my coffee mug on the kitchen counter and wrapped my arms around his neck. Yeah, we are definitely the best team. We always were.
"Thank you." - I said gently brushing his lips with mine.
"Whatever makes you happy, Val." - and I knew he meant every word - "What time do you have Seth and Kein?" - and just like that the moment was gone.
"Am second period." - I said getting back to reality.
" Alright, I'll get some work and lay it down in your office to stay close. Just in case." - Rob announced and I nodded feeling somehow better that he will stay close by - "Do you have any plan? Throw them into practicing together or something?"
I sighed and stepped away from his embrace thinking the possibilities through. I've been wondering about this more than once, and I really don't have the answer. I know it was all my idea to put them together, but now that it's about to happen I have no idea how not to overdo it. After all, Hell is paved with good intentions, and I don't want to be known by history as a reckless girl who held lit matches over gasoline cans.
"No idea. I guess I will see how they interact and go from there." - I said feeling a bit ridiculous, that I don't actually have any plan.
"Sounds smart. Alright. So I'll see you later." - he said placing a kiss on my forehead and walking for the doors.
I was dreading the upcoming period, to the point that the first one that day was the longest hour of my life. I was constantly glancing at the watch and no matter what I did it was almost as if time was standing still. If I didn't know any better I would have suspected Matilda f*****g with me.
Finally, when the moment came, I felt like it wasn't just 9 am, but long after noon, but when the boy's advanced group started coming to the training field, I forced myself into my zone.
They were all seniors, so most of them knew each other or at least knew someone from the group. But what they weren't aware of, the whole group of thirty young wolves instinctively separated into two groups. They still stood together, but the rift between them was clear as day. And I probably shouldn't be surprised that in one of those groups was Seth and in the other Kein. Huh, interesting.
"Hello Boys, as you can see, we did some mash-ups with groups this year. You are the strongest group of seniors, so I will give you extra hell on the field." - I announced and immediately Titus's hand went up. - "Yes, Ty?"
"Did the rules change and we have to call you Coach Morgan now?" - he snickered with a smirk.
"Yes and no. Yes, the rules have changed and for every stupid question, like this one, you will be my very own punching bag. And no, if you earned it you can still call me Val." - I answered sending Titus a sinister smile. The boys started chuckling and just like that I was back in my game.
To be honest, I felt great teaching young wolves how to fight. It was not only because I was simply good at it, but because I honestly enjoyed it. Even when it wasn't my cover-up work, I still liked to visit our Pack warriors and go with them through all those new routines, challenge them and see how they grow in their craft. Here things were the same, but on a bigger scale.
"Alright, boys, let's do the warm up. Ten laps around the field, the last one to arrive is cleaning the locker room." - I ordered and they started their run.
The rivalry was strong and none of them wanted to be the last one. And this gave me the perfect view of both twins. But to my surprise they didn't act as competitive as the rest. They weren't last, but I could even from this distance tell they weren't using all of their potential. They steadily jogged in the middle of the group. Neither Kein nor Seth apparently felt the need to prove themselves to anyone or maybe they didn't want to show their full stamina, which I was most certain was great.
I ordered a few other simple tasks to see if they would snap, if somehow they would be interested in winning these insignificant competitions, but nothing of that sort happened. They looked perfectly content in being average and not showing too much to others.
I know for a fact that Sar asked Kein to withhold his powers to not scare others off, and that was exactly what he did in my classes for the past two years. But to be honest I was expecting that Seth's proximity will make them instantly try to prove themselves and lay down some hierarchy.
We still had no idea what they actually could do. It was customary that twin Alphas ruled together. However Kein and Seth weren't identical, so the only logical solution would be if Seth was destined to rule as the eldest. But then again, why would some of the wolves, me included, feel that strong connection to Kein. It wasn't logical, but let's face it, none of the circumstances surrounding them was. And unfortunately, my job here, aside from keeping them alive, was to investigate this fenomena.
"Alright guys, let's try one on one. Try to stay in your ranks to make it challenging." - I ordered and the group started pairing.
But unfortunately, I had three Alpha males here and Kein chose to spar with Buzzard Stevens. Buzz was a good kid, a bit too quiet for an Alpha, insecure even, and I knew he was not challenging at all to Kein.
However, when they started going with our routines from the last semester Kein wasn't too hard on him, as if he didn't want to make Buzz feel bad. He was even giving him some tips about his legs work and stance.
Seth on the other hand, having no other Alpha in the group, started fighting with Titus. And that's where I saw the real fire. He may not have cared about the running or pull ups, but when he stood against someone it got personal and he couldn't lose.
A few minutes into the spars Kein was still showing Buzzard new tactics, better movements like a proper teacher. While Titus was barely standing with sweat covering his whole forehead and staining his T-shirt.
I didn't want to do it the first day, but why the hell not.
"That's enough. We'll do a little switch. Ty, you will stand against Buzz. Kein, Seth you are together."
Four boys nodded and did as I said. I totally forgot about other students, my eyes were focused only on the twins. I watched them both taking their fighting stances, each of them was so different, laced by years of training separately and learning from different warriors. But when they charged at one another it was like dancing. Their moves were so fluid, well led and to the point that I watched them almost mesmerized.
I saw Seth smirking, as if he was pleasantly surprised to finally find someone challenging, and that's when things got heated. They were no longer acting like students but as if they were truly fighting.
Seth managed to strike Kein on the ribs, just to be hit in his exposed jaw. Then there were some low kicks, hooks, straights and none of them looked like they were ready to let go and they'd been going at it for a good few minutes, attracting attention from other students.
Maybe that wasn't such a good idea. I obviously haven't thought through what I would have to do to separate them.
I was kinda relieved when my phone beeped announcing that our hour had come to an end.
"Alright guys, that's it for today. I'll see you again on Monday. Class dismissed." - I shouted and everyone started gathering their water and heading to the locker room.
Twins stopped fighting too and I watched with breath stuck in my throat what they would do next.
To my surprise, they both smiled with satisfaction. They looked really glad to finally have someone worthy of a good spar. That was new for both of them.
Then Seth made a step forward and stretched out his hand.
"Good fight, Man. Seth McGeady, El Caura." - he said, watching Kein closely. Kein gave his signature lopsided smile and returned the gesture.
"Kein King, Fang's Pride."
Then they nodded with knowing acknowledgement and without another word went for the showers.
"They were both great, like they were practicing together for years, but you'd like to close those mouth, your Mate wouldn't appreciate that." - said Titus with a smirk from beside me and after I composed myself he grinned and joined the rest of the group.
I didn't know what to make out of this encounter. They are either equally strong or close to it. But that friendliness between them took me off guard.
Was it possible that we were worried over nothing, or did every set of twins start on similarly good terms?
