“I have made you happy?” Lady Hester asked in a sweet soft voice.
“I will talk about that tomorrow,” he replied, yawning as he spoke.
Setting her on one side, he climbed out of bed.
She gave a little cry of protest and put out her arms to try to hold him to her, saying,
“You have not answered my suggestion!”
The Earl yawned again.
“What suggestion?” he asked her.
Then, as he put on a long velvet robe that was very much more expensive than anything he had ever owned before, he said,
“God, I am tired! I find it difficult to remember anything except that you are a very beautiful woman.”
“That is what I want you to think,” Lady Hester said, “and that is why – ”
He interrupted her by yawning once again.
Then, before she could hold his attention, he had opened the door.
