Ella
There is something about my neighbor that seems strange, though I can't put a finger on it. First of all, he lives all alone. No family, not even a simple pet. I am kind of snoopy, I know, but my curiosity about him drives me insane.
It's been six months since I moved to the countryside of Scotland, wishing for peace and mainly to run away from the life I left behind. I own quite an estate for someone who lives alone. Then there is my neighbor, whose house is close to mine despite other houses being far from each other. In this area, it is only us two.
Well, not that I can say anything. I am the one who found him here. I remember that day like it was yesterday when he came to welcome me as his new neighbor, and how happy he was that someone had moved close to his house since he was the only one who lived in this area. It was strange, but I didn't dwell on it much. Something I did dwell on was his devilishly handsome looks; he is hot. The whole time, I hoped I didn't act like a horny teenager. Then his eyes, his sexy dark gray eyes that look like they have an intense storm brewing, swept over my body, and I was hypnotized. I was drunk on a feeling I couldn't even begin to describe. Then his looks: he is exactly my type of man - tall, sharp jawline, with a sexy beard. Let me not even start with his huge, sexy body that looks like he spent most of his years in the backyard chopping huge planks of wood. The image alone makes me wet with desire. His very wide, huge shoulders were calling me in, and when I looked at his lips, I went crazy. I couldn't lie about all the crazy things those lips could do; I had already imagined myself bouncing on them.
But with all that, something about him seemed even stranger, like he had this dark aura that surrounded him.
"Back to earth, Ella!" My best friend Jade snaps her fingers in front of me, bringing me back to reality because, honestly, I was out of this world.
"Huh..."
She shakes her head in disapproval. "Did you even get anything I said?" She asks.
I simply give her a guilty, sly smile. "Are you thinking about that hot neighbor you mentioned the other day?" She asks once again.
I can't help but blush, I am a deer caught in the headlights.
"I already told you to jump him, Ella; if I were you, I would have done that a long time ago," she smirks. "Get a taste of that dic..."
"Don't even finish that." I cut her off.
I grab the cup of coffee in front of me and take a sip. I can't help but sigh with contentment. The taste of coffee is heaven. Just something I need on a Monday morning. I can tell this will be one hell of a week. Work is already piling up, and just the thought of it exhausts me.
"But you know I am telling you the truth." Her big, doe-blue eyes shine with mischief as she speaks.
I dwell on what she said for a moment. Could I do that? Who am I kidding? Of course, I would.
Jade's eyes shine with mischief, as she already knows where my dirty mind has taken me—in the gutter. Alright, more like the neighbor's bed screaming out his sexy, moanable name; that's after I know it, of course. A small smile creeps on my lips, and Jade rolls her eyes.
She shakes her head and then says, “Get your head out of the gutter."
It is my turn to roll my eyes at her and say, "Rich coming from you." My tongue rolls with sarcasm, and she sticks out her tongue at me in a childish manner. Jade has this wild character that I love, and most of all, she is real. She has never once pretended to be something she is not. I may have only known her for six months, but that was enough to find a good best friend, something I never had before.
I can't believe I was missing out on so much.
She grabs her cup and continues to drink the entire time I fight my mind from drifting to my sexy neighbor. Another strange thing about him is that, despite being my neighbor, I have only ever seen him once. Ever since the day he first visited me, he has never stepped foot in my yard again. There are so many possible reasons. It could be that either he isn't a people person and likes to keep to himself or he is just an asshole and doesn't enjoy getting along with others; not that it surprises me that he lived all alone in our area before I showed up.
"You know one thing I noticed, Ella?" Jade begins.
"You have never mentioned his name; it's always my
"Neighbor this or my neighbor that." She gestures dramatically with her hands as she looks at me with those blue orbs of hers.
"That's because I don't know his name," I whine. I put both of my hands on the tabletop as I lean toward her.
She pouts, "Oh, you poor baby."
She is quick to snatch her purse from the table and hit my shoulder with it. I moan out in pain; this girl is one hell of an aggressive b***h.
"What was that for?" I complain as I rub the part she was just hitting. I shoot her a hard glare, and she smiles mischievously. What a little devil!
Despite her petite body, she is one hell of a firecracker. "For being a bad neighbor yourself!" she accuses as she glares at me.
I frown, my confusion is clear as day. "How am I a bad neighbor? He is the bad neighbor, not me. Besides, he was supposed to introduce himself the day he came to welcome me." I complain once more; if I sound like a baby, I don't care.
Jade gives me a bored look, like she isn't going to buy anything that leaves my mouth. She waves off, and I can't help but roll my eyes. "So here is what you are going to do, Missy: you are going to that neighbor of yours, and you are going to have a little chat with him, okay, a little chat. And if you don't do that, then don't talk to me tomorrow."
My eyes go wide. This girl has to be crazier than I am.
"Are you seriously going to throw me to the wolves like that?" My look of horror has her chuckling.
"Don't be a dramatic b***h; just go. I am sure he is the sweetest and sexiest man, even though I have never seen him. Get some while you are there, too. I bet you have cobwebs down there." With that, she stands up with her coffee cup and leaves me. The breakfast break is over anyway.
Coffee and lunch breaks are the only times that Jade and I have ever had to spend together. Despite being lawyers, we were found in different wings. She dealt more with companies, while I dealt with crimes, fighting for people, and such. I too get up and rush back to my office, where I pick up one file and continue to study my newest case. It is a money laundering case; it is no surprise I get these mostly, and that contributes to why I moved here and away from where I previously lived. I have to stick to being low-key, or things will go bad once I am discovered. And if being low-key means handing out small cases, then I will take that any day.
The rest of my day goes smoothly, and the sun is almost setting when I leave the office. I get into my car, a simple Tesla that I keep dear to me. After all, it is my baby. The distance from work to home is one hour. The farther from town, the better; that way, people won't easily discover where I live. Other than my neighbor, Jade is the only other person who knows where I live.
Finally, I'm home. I get out of the car and the moment I open my door, my husky welcomes me. I kneel and give her a big hug, and she wiggles her tail at me. I smile at her, and she goes back to running around and playing with her chew toy. In this big house, it's only us two, and she keeps me company most of the time.
I head to my bedroom on the first floor. I manage to take a nice long shower and get changed into some fresh clothes. I adorn myself in some black sweatpants, which I pair with a white crop top after adding some socks and sneakers. I am ready to go.
I only have one mission in mind: to talk to my neighbor. That crazy best friend of mine surely wants to get me in trouble. I can see it. But who cares? I can't risk not talking to her ever again.
I march out of the house and leave Besty, my Siberian husky, behind. She doesn't seem to like my neighbor so much, which is another surprising thing because Besty loves almost everyone, and when she barks at him, he only gives her that one look that has her tucking her tail and running off.
I walk the path that leads me out of my yard. I am already panting from walking. Having such a big estate is an issue on its own. I reach my neighbors in record time, and by then it is dark outside.
A shiver runs through my spine. I am not fond of the dark at all. I hate the dark with a passion. I reach my neighbor's gate and press the button; it doesn't take long before the gates open by themselves. I am in awe of the inside. Everything looks so nice, including the great scenery. It is my first time coming here, and I have been his neighbor for that long. Maybe Jade was right. I am a bad neighbor too. I follow the dirt road that leads inside, and after I am in, the gates close on their own.
The whole scene feels strange, to say the least. Still feeling determined, I keep going. I need to see that handsome man once again and at least get to know his name.
When I am near his house, I see his silhouette by the porch, and as I keep walking, he comes even more into view. Gosh, this man is tall. I feel the wind getting knocked out of my lungs. I am crushing on a neighbor I barely know.
I still don't know his name.
