Doyle watched the sky as the sound of battle drifted to the mountain people’s valley. He spotted the German airship attacking the Legend. He knew Helena’s airship carried no weapons strong enough to defeat the assault. If some miracle didn’t happen, his friends were about to die. He felt a sudden pang of guilt where he knew there should be none.
He had paid back any debt to Helena tenfold. He deserved some manner of peace with Tsang Mei, no matter how short it might be. His rationalization didn’t help the fear that sank into his belly as he watched the fight over his head.
