Chapter 11:

2439 Words

Chapter 11: Carl and Sigmund stood before an older three-story home that had apparently been separated into three flats. It had been a while since the home had been divided, because Carl found it easy to spot the years of weathering on the front doors. They might have needed to knock on all three if not for the sign bearing the staff of Asclepius. When they opened the door, a small bell rang to announce their entrance. Carl wasn’t shocked to find the doctor’s office also served as the front room of the doctor’s home. In the poorer parts of town, there often was little distinction between business and residence. Most proprietors lived on the same floor, if not directly above their storefronts. A young Asian woman entered from the back, modestly dressed in a spotless white nurse uniform.
