As we stepped out of the tense atmosphere of the consulate room, I felt a subtle shift in Chase's demeanor. It was like he’d been trying to hold something in when we were still there. His hand, which had been firm and steady moments ago, now trembled when we got to the cold hallway. He let go of my hand and placed his hands on the wall as he began hyperventilating.
