The moment the words left his mouth I froze, I was ready for this, I was. but to hear it directly from his mouth was more painful and brutal than my guess. I didn't say a peep, nor did I argue, I waited for him to finish this torture for once and for all.
"But not today," he said and I let out the breath I didn't know I was holding "Today is papa and mamma's wedding anniversary and they are throwing a charity event as always, be their daughter-in-law for the last time and then we are done" with that he threw the apron on the floor and stormed out of the kitchen.
he slammed the door out his way and tires of his car screeched as he drove off, that's... that's when I lost my footing and fell on the marble floor. I didn't scream, I didn't cry, I broke down.
Do you remember you're first heartbreak? people say that first love always hurt, they leave a deep scar out their way and ruin it for whoever will be next. yeah, That. but just multiply it with 100 and that is the feeling I'm feeling right now, total vulnerability
I know that I got what I wanted but why the hell was I not relieved or happy? why do I feel empty? knowing he was never there, to begin with.
Silent tears fell out of my eyes, I didn't cry. no, my heart did.
Later that day I found Oliver in my office, I sighed 'this is the last thing I need right now'. I opened my office door and strolled in and sat on my chair.
"When did you leave?" I asked him and he smiled sheepishly
"I left last night, I didn't know if he wanted me there," he said with a sad smile and I know the feeling.
"You could have informed me, I was worried," I said and opened my laptop, looking at what I was supposed to do today.
"Sorry," he said "never mind that, what about the event tonight? you still on?" he said to me like a child waiting to go to the carnival. can't believe this guy is older to me by 4 years.
"Yeah," I said and gave him a fake smile/ happy smile.
"Great," he said but kept moving his eyes "good because I invited Pete, " I looked at him unable to respond, Pete is Oliver's long term boyfriend and if he is inviting him then it only means one thing.
"You sure about it?" I asked him "Pete doesn't like being your secret"
"I'm... I'm no longer keeping him a secret" he took in a deep breath "I'm ready to come out" and exhaled. I smiled at him genuine this time.
"That's great, I'm happy for you," I smiled and held his hand in mine "And if things went south I will always be there for you, you hear me?" he smiled relaxed and stood up to hug me
"I know, thank you for always being so understanding" I hugged him back tighter and this time I was the one who needed that hug the most, trying to glue my broken pieces together.
"I'll see you tonight," he said and with that, he left and I was alone all over again, sighing I went back to my work there was still some time left before the event.
When the clock struck 6 pm, it was time to go and get ready for the big day. I wore a simple but elegant burgundy off-shoulder gown and put on some light makeup and diamond stud earrings, I pulled my hair in an elegant bun.
Dimitri was already there so, I had to drive my car, sighing I locked the door and was about to get in my car when out of nowhere a honk of a car. I jumped not expecting that and found a black Mercedes parked out our lawn, it honked again but the door of the driver's side opened and walked out a man in a black suit, at that moment there was only one thought in my mind.
Black Magic exists because I am completely bewitched.
"Let's go, you are late," Dimitri said monotone, I know I shouldn't look for compliments but at least you look nice wouldn't kill him, nodding I get in and we drove off.
the tension in the was thicker than smoke and chocking, but I endured it. this was probably the last time we will be in the same car, as we parked inside the old mansion's parking lot, he didn't get out immediately, so I took it upon myself and opened the door.
"Don't tell anyone about what happened today we will end it quietly," he said calmly, I didn't reply just walked away.
The Price Mansion was buzzing with joy and happiness, it was torcher. they were too happy it was annoying but I held it in and faked a smile to everyone who greeted me and posed for media who were shooting the grand charity even. Dimitri was behind me but when the photographer asked for our couple picture I hesitated, my smile probably flattered a little but he was a pro, in the game of lies the was a king. he pulled me to him by my waist like it was the most natural thing he did, I gasped lightly. everywhere he touched my skin tingled, he held my waist possessively, like showing ownership in some weird way I liked it. I liked the attention he was giving me even if it was a little while.
"There are my babies" Mrs. Price exclaimed happily, the moment between us was gone and he let me go, Mr.Price was not far behind.
Adeline or Mrs. Price is in her late seventies, and Robert her husband was also the same. they are Dimitri's grandparents. he was raised by them from the age of fifteen, his parents died in a car crash and he was the lone survivor. Oliver is his first cousin from his father's side Dimitry is the eldest child.
"You look, lovely darling," she said hugging me and Dimitry
"You look stunning Mamma as usual" I complimented her because it was true for someone who is in their early seventies she was so maintained "You look, handsome Papa," I said and he hugged me too and kissed my forehead
"You look beautiful my chid," he said smiling
"Happy anniversary guys, "Dimitri said with a small smile, he was not very close with his grandparents but he loved them but couldn't express his feelings
"I don't want your wishes" Adeline huffed dramatically "We are getting old and before it's too late I want to at least once hold my great-grandchildren"
