Girl Friday
The next day she called to tell him she accepted his offer. She didn’t bother to ask him about the salary but he told her anyway. It was but a fraction of what she was earning at Omnicon but it was enough to pay her rent and food bill. What decided her was partly the considerations Roth had raised, about the need to emerge from her solitude. But she also had hopes of resuming her punishment sessions. It had never come up during dinner, but she feared that if she didn’t accept his offer she would never hear from him again.
Roth had her start the next Friday so that his outgoing receptionist Darlene could show her the ropes. She arrived at 8:30 and he immediately called her into his office. He explained that normal hours would be 8:30 to 5:30 with an hour for lunc
