05 - Abducted?

Watching as my mate left the table, I lost my appetite and my heart tightens inside of me. No one knows better about how hard she’s trying than I do and it breaks my heart every time I see her hurting.

I watch her disappear from my sight before turning to my mother “Go and take a rest Davina” I say coldly “I’ll have Casey pick up from where you left off.”

Her eyes widened at the tone to which I addressed her but that is the least of my worries. I never asked her to love Laila but I also never expected her to openly express her dislike. I mindlink Lewis to pick and drop Laila off at school before shifting into my wolf and running to my office.

Behind the office building is a change of clothes that I put on before making my way to my office. I hop into the shower to let the heat burn through my skin to divert my attention from things but it doesn’t seem to be working.

Being here in the office reminds me of the issue with the vampire king and the lack of progress thus far. I grab a shirt and pants from the clothing rack and throw it on before walking back into my office and turning on my computer.

As I go through the emails, my secretary walks in with a file on her hands.

“Alpha, this is the updates on the search of the rogue vampires who killed the Vampire King’s son” she says her hands shaking like a leaf dancing to the wind as she hands over my file.

I know am a little too hard on the looks but I don’t understand why people tremble around me. I motion for her to leave as I flip through the file.

Frowning at the photos in the file as well as the dates, I put a call across to the vampire king.

“My people are not responsible for your son’s death, I just sent you the evidence.” I sneer with little interest to argue with the old fool.

“Are you calling me a liar Arthur? They were scratches on his body and bite marks that clearly shows that a werewolf was involved” he replies coldly with no trace of emotion in his voice as expected of a dead man.

“Bears have claws and they bite too plus his heart was thorn from his chest” I say pointing towards the fact before me. A rogue will tear through the vampires’ flesh and the corpse would be hard to recognize but this was a strategic kill and my people know not to mess with the vampires.

“Something a wolf can easily do!” he screamed like a maniac “you better find the culprit Alpha or I will retaliate in kind”

“Are you threatening me?” I ask standing from my seat as I feel my blood boil.

“Call it a threat or whatever you like but you have till 5 pm today” he says, his voice dripping with arrogance and before I could send out a warning of my own, he hangs up the call.

My left-hand balls into a fist by my side as I drop the phone on the table. I immediately send out a mindlink to Roy calling for an emergency security meeting.

We spend the next 2 hours going through all possible points of attack as we close off the town even from human visitors. The Sherriff and his men are out on patrols and the town has been on lockdown.

‘Alpha, we just got word of an attack on the high school!’

The mind link from my gamma has me weak in the knees as I tear through my clothes running towards the school. By the time I get there, the school has been evacuated so I shifted back into my human form knowing that she’s safe.

“Uncle Arthur I can’t find Laila!” Avery screamed with tears as she ran to me. My heart jumps at her statement as I manage to walk forward.

“Where could she be?”

“I don’t know uncle; her classmates say she didn’t go back to class after the lunch break.”

“Calm down, go search the school premise with your brother while I have a chat with the Sherrif”

I walk slowly to my gamma who is talking with one of the teens.

“It was really scary, he just bit into her neck” the girl says crying pitifully and I tremble.

“Who?” surprised by how pitiful I sounded right now.

“A senior, she’s been sent to the hospital” Phil, my gamma and the current sheriff replied and am forced to look at him.

“The vampires?” I ask with a heavy heart desperately trying to forget the image of Laila being ripped to pieces by a vampire.

“5 is dead and 3 are being transported to the station” he replied and I nod before asking the question that is slowly eating at me “Who’s the girl?”

“Her name is Vivian” he replies and I heave a sigh of relief clutching my chest. I’m disappointed in myself as alpha because that teenager is also part of my family yet I shamelessly feel relief that she’s the one that’s hurt.

“Great, don’t worry kid, she’ll be fine, go home” I say to the teen and she turns to leave.

“You, okay?” Phil asks with an arched brow.

“No, my mate is missing” I reply and he frowns.

“That’s terrible” he says and I reply “Yeah, just go make sure those blood suckers are locked up properly while I make sure she wasn’t abducted”

“Alright, good luck man”
