"This...I don't like this," Jade said as she patted the head of her dragon. I looked at her with sympathy before patting my own dragon goodbye.
No one likes going into something that may be a trap. Especially without your dragon to protect you or to smell out the trappers.
Felix, Maximus, and Jade are the ones I allowed on this journey. Annabella needed taken care of and Potts...well, she's not a fighter.
"It'll be fine," Maximus said as he strayed up the trail. I smiled as I took off after him.
I was actually looking forward this. I was looking forward to what the mirror will show me this time.
"So," Felix said, "are you going to tell me what to expect?"
"A bunch of people that don't want anything to do with us," I told him.
"Well, someone does now," he commented.
I nodded and we walked the rest of the way in silence. The little town was just as it was with people passing quickly by without a glance up. The main building was directly in front of us as we walked through the snow.
"I like this," Maximus said as he took a long sniff. I nodded as the smell hit my own nose. Ham. And chicken.
"Where is that?" Felix asked as he glanced around.
"Well," I said as I opened the door, "I think I just found it."
The mirror still stood in the center and there was a table in the corner layered with different kinds of foods.
Maximus charged forward towards the food and I grabbed his arm while stifling a laugh.
"What?" He asked.
"Remember? Trap?" Jade said as she laughed.
"Right," he muttered as he pulled out his sword before yelling, "come out and fight like a man!"
"This is no trap," a voice said from behind us, making us all jump. We spun around, everyone but me pulling out their weapons.
An elderly woman stood before us and didn't even flinch at the steel. She simply raised an eyebrow like a disappointed grandmother.
"Okay," I said as I stepped forward, "we're here to see the baby. The one we were asked to see."
"I know this," she said, "I'm the one that sent that message."
"What's you name?" I asked, "I'm Alaina. These are my friends and fellow dragon riders."
"Which one is the leader?" She asked.
"That would be me," I told her. She stepped forward until she grabbed my arm and lifted up my sleeve. Her fingers traced over my scar with a dream like smile on her face.
"It is you," she muttered but looking up with a grin, "now! Eat up! We recognize your normal traditions. You must be tired as well. There are sleeping mats in the corner, rest up and tomorrow we will talk."
With that she left with a turn of her heel, leaving my confused.
"So," Maximus said, bouncing on his heels, "can we eat?"
