The Doctor's Genius Ex-wife

The excitement on Ivy’s face was unmistakable, she couldn’t hide her happiness. After three years of marriage, she had finally conceived. After enduring three years of patience, bullying, and insults from her husband, she had given him what he always wanted. The last three years had been hell. Her husband, Nate, had despised her for not being able to conceive, but now that she had, she couldn’t wait to share the news with him. Too excited to wait for his return, she quickly got dressed in a sleeveless denim jumpsuit, styled her hair into a ponytail, and headed out of the house. Ivy was an orphan who grew up with her grandma. She was fortunate to marry Nate three years ago, before he became famous and well-known in Chicago as one of the most skilled and talented doctors in the country. Their marriage started smoothly, and they lived in harmony until Nate began to change. His reason? She hadn’t even had a miscarriage, so he believed there was no way she had a womb. From that point, Nate changed, and ever since, life had been hell for her. Sometimes, he even hit her. It broke Ivy's heart, especially since she, too, wanted a child to call her own. But today, after a visit to the hospital, she was confirmed to be two weeks pregnant. The cab came to a halt, and Ivy stepped out with a wide grin on her face. She paid her fare and turned to face the gigantic hospital in front of her. She stood there, contemplating how Nate would react when she break the news to him. She believed he would be the happiest man on the planet today. She had finally given him what he had always wanted. She turned on her heels and marched toward the hospital entrance, the smile never leaving her face. Doctors and nurses who recognized her as Nate's wife greeted her as she walked past them, until she found herself standing in front of his office door. She inhaled deeply and exhaled sharply, feeling a bit nervous about facing him. He might not believe her, that's her biggest fear. Ivy lifted her hand and knocked on the door. She stood there, waiting for a reply, but began to wonder if he might be attending to patients or in surgery. She pushed the thought aside and knocked again, but still got no response. Finally, she decided to wait for him inside and proceeded to push the door open. As soon as she stepped into the room, what she saw made her eyes nearly pop out of their sockets. It felt as if her soul left her body. Nate was busy savoring the lips of another woman, completely unaware that his wife was standing right in front of him. He had heard the knock but ignored it, confident that no one would dare enter without his permission. That was his rule. "Nate?" she called out, and they quickly disentangled themselves from each other. He rose and hurriedly buttoned his shirt. "When did you get in here?" He asked, his face filled with irritation, his tone cold and scary. "Long enough to know you were with another woman who isn't me. What have I done to deserve this?" Ivy asked, her voice trembling. She was on the verge of breaking down but held herself together. This wasn’t what she expected, she didn’t deserve to be cheated on after being patient with him all these years. "Who gave you permission to barge into my office?" Nate clenched his fists, visibly holding back from hitting her. "Don’t you know how to knock?" His anger was rising, and his mistress stepped closer, caressing his chest in an attempt to calm him down. "You don’t need to get worked up over her." The woman said flirtatiously. "She’s not worth your time." She added. "Excuse me, I’m his wife. Don’t talk to me like that. I am worth it, he married me. You are just one of those women he will eventually dump." Nate walked closer to Ivy, his voice cold. "Watch your mouth. I cherish her, she's everything to me." Those words shattered Ivy's heart. What about her? What would happen to her? "What about me? Shouldn’t you feel any remorse? I just caught you with another woman. I deserve an explanation." Tears welled up in her eyes, and she let them fall freely, the pain too much to bear. Ivy's head began to spin. She had suspected something for months, but he never made personal calls at home—only calls from the hospital. There was no way she could have known for sure until now. "You are nothing. I have nothing to say to you. But before you leave, I should punish you for daring to talk back at her." Nate grabbed Ivy's hair, yanking it back hard. Ivy clutched his hands, trying to pull away, but he wouldn’t let go. He glanced toward his mistress and nodded. They had already planned this; all that was left was to carry it out. She understood and nodded in return. "Let me go, Nate! You have no right to hold me. I have done nothing wrong!" Ivy was still struggling when his mistress handed him a knife. The next thing Ivy saw was blood staining her hands. She screamed and stumbled back in shock. Nate lay on the floor, the knife buried in his stomach. "What have you done? You killed him!" His mistress shrieked, rushing toward him. "Nate! Nate! Don’t do this to me!" she cried, pretending to be horrified, carefully avoiding the blood. "No, I didn’t do anything. I didn’t stab him. He must have stabbed himself by accident." Ivy said breathlessly, confused and staring at her blood, covered hands. It happened to fast, she didn't know when it happened. "Help! Help! Somebody, please help!" she cried, desperately calling for assistance. Nurses rushed into the room and found Nate lying lifeless on the floor, blood soaking the ground. "What happened?" They asked, trying to lift Nate from the floor, their hands slipping on the blood stained tiles. "She stabbed him, his wife did it!" The mistress accused, pointing at Ivy, whose hands were still covered in blood. "Quick! Call the police, and let’s get him to the emergency room. We need to stop the bleeding." one of the nurses said urgently. They carried Nate out of the room, while the mistress called the cops. Later that evening, Ivy was sentenced to four years in jail for attempted murder. She had no witnesses, only Nate’s mistress, who had fabricated more lies to make the situation even worse. With no evidence to prove her innocence, Ivy found herself behind bars. As they drove her to jail, Ivy suddenly remembered why she had gone to Nate’s office in the first place. She had wanted to share her good news with him, but it had turned into a nightmare. They had set her up, spread lies, and sent her to jail. Ivy looked out at the passing streets, placing a hand on her stomach as she thought about the baby. "We will be fine." She whispered. "Just stay in there, until we come back stronger." She rubbed her tummy, smiling bitterly.
