Chapter 7 A few days later, when Lathe was on his way to the precinct to report in with his captain, he stopped by his old office and couldn’t believe what he saw. It wasn’t just a mess; it was a disaster zone. It looked like a drunken cyclone had made a path through there, destroying everything it came in contact with. There was a trail, first to his desk, and then to his files, the drawers pulled out, dumped on the floor, and important papers now ripped to shreds. The only clues that this office had once belonged to him was the half full bottles of alcohol that littered the floor in various states of dust that resembled mold.
