His Betrayal
Charlotte’s P.O.V.
“Where are you, Char? The race is about to start.” Mona screamed at the other end of the call.
I could hear students shouting Adam’s name all around her which only made me feel proud of my boyfriend, Adam Fraiser, the best athlete in our school.
“Only two more minutes, Mona. I am a…. already running at the highest speed th.. that I can.” I replied her breathlessly, feeling dizzy because of the running.
I was eagerly waiting for today’s race because Adam said that he would announce me as his girlfriend to the whole school after winning the race today.
To my dismay, one of my classmates fell from the chair, and as the CR of the class, I, Chralette Carter, had to take her to the infirmary.
Now, I am running for my life so that I won’t miss seeing my boyfriend winning the race which was crucial for his career as an athlete too.
I stopped right near the fences, and the whistle blew up at the same time.
“Come on, Adam,” I screamed at the top of my lungs to cheer for him, but my voice drowned in the mixed screams of other students.
Not that I minded it because everyone was now enchanting his name with thunderous claps.
I almost started chanting while jumping and clapping. My heart was now thudding hard against my ribcage in anticipation as he was about to cross the end line.
“Yay.” I screamed aloud when he crossed the line. Everyone burst into thunderous cheers, enchanting his name in the process.
“He won, Sheryl. He won.” Mona threw herself on my back while screaming aloud in excitement.
Only Mona knows about me and Adam, and also, she is the only one who knows that Adam was going to propose formally to me in front of the whole school today.
Adam was still running while roaring in excitement after winning the race.
I was grinning so hard that I felt pain in the corners of my mouth.
“What are you waiting for? Go now.” She urged me while yelling. The crowd was still screaming hard and that was why she could only shout to make me hear her.
I nodded anxiously and then looked at Adam who was still on the second lap.
“Come on, Charlette. Grab your happiness,” I said to myself and then walked towards the entrance between the fences.
My heart was now thudding hard against my ribcage in excitement and anticipation. Adam was running towards me, and I smiled wide while slowly lifting my foot up to walk to him.
My foot stopped midair when I saw him changing his direction. I froze in the same position, watching him running somewhere else.
I couldn’t even blink, and stopped breathing when I saw a cheerleader running towards him too.
In front of my frozen eyes, they embraced each other excitedly.
He lifted her up from the ground and spun on his heels, taking a few whirls with her in his tight embrace.
The whole crowd erupted into a light cheer, but my mind was too numb to register what had just happened.
He put her down and the next second, I felt as if someone had thrown me into a deep pit of darkness as my world went black immediately.
Adam kissed Natalia Branson, the girl whom I hated the most.
He kissed Natalia when he knew that I, his actual girlfriend, was watching the whole farce.
I heard someone yelling my name, but the explosion in my mind was so intense that I couldn’t hear anything else but a loud ringing in my ears.
Their intertwined bodies were now reeling in front of my eyes.
How could he do this to me?
In front of my eyes, he pulled her up, making her wrap her long and naked legs around his waist, the place where I always wrapped my hands to hold him in a hug.
I watched him shoving his tongue deep inside her throat, and I heard a faint moan coming from her.
Even when the whole place was exploding with the applause and cheers from the crowd, I heard that moan.
It burst my eardrums.
This was supposed to be my first kiss with him. We promised each other that we would have our first kiss in front of everyone when he would propose me.
How could he betray me?
For six months….. six f**king months, we were dating, sneaking around, going for movies, clubs…
Doing everything that I don’t like because of him.
And what did he do to me?
I felt a hand in my eyes, darkening my whole world, but the hooting of the surrounding crowd was still making me realize that I wasn’t in a nightmare.
It was happening in front of me. The person dragged me away. I felt my ankles twisting, shooting pain through the whole length of my legs, but I was numb to every pain now.
Why did he do this to me?
Did he make any bets with his friends or something like that before approaching me six months ago?
Was I so easily fooled that I couldn’t see his true intentions?
Charlotte Parker, you are an i***t, you know that?
I have never seen my father, and my mother is the only parental figure in my life.
She is strict, and always has rules for almost everything.
I understand her difficulties, and that's why I never complained about the lack of mother's warmth.
After all, she has to run family business at the same time.
I guess this is the reason that I let myself believe Adam's lies because I craved a man's affection?
For six months, you let a playboy, who you know…. You know that he is a playboy, and yet you let him play with your feelings….. you let him trample all over you and from now on he will walk over you with that nasty smug smile of his whenever you two meet.
I cursed myself into my heart.
“Breath Char….. breath. I…. I told you he is not trustworthy.” I heard someone cursing Adam, but both my mind and heart were so drowned in sorrow that I barely registered a word.
“Charlette,” she screamed again, and my whole spun hard. I felt a sharp pain in my face, making me wince in pain.
I looked up and saw Mona standing in front of me, ragging in anger, shooting daggers at me through her eyes.
“Why can’t you listen to me? Cry, if you want to cry, but don’t play dead on me.” She screamed at me at the top of her lungs.
"I told you not to trust him, but you were adamant about making a fool of yourself. Look, what he has done." She was still yelling at me, but was holding me tightly in her embrace.
I had no idea where we were, but the silence of the surroundings was welcoming.
"He.... he.... he decieved me, Mona. H.. how can he do this to me?" I said to her in a daze, my vision blurred and the sharp ringing in my ears was still going on.
"Get a grip on yourself, girl. You are stronger than this. You.... you can't let them walk over you." she comforted me, but sobbed a little while speaking.
"How can he do this to me?" I murmured and sobbed aloud this time.
"Cry, Char.... let this grief out of your chest. This is the only way that you can fight them like a fighter you are. Don't let them laugh at you." she kept mumbling in a cracked voice, trying to encourage me, but I was completely drowned in my sorrow.
"AAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." I screamed in pain when I couldn't stand the pain in my chest.
My knees went jelly, but she held me tightly and slowly put me down to the ground.
"AAahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." I screamed again, losing all control on my body, trying to get rid off the pain and suffocation.
"Scream as much as you can, girl. I got you. I am with you. I am always with you." she continued, whispering into my ears, but all I could hear was cheering and hooting of the crowd, encouraging Adam and Natalie to go on with their kisses.
"Why? Why?" I screamed at the top of my lungs again.
"God, girl! What are you, banshee?" my scream struck into my throat when a cold and heavy voice hit my eardrums.
