CHAPTER 29

ONE WEEK HAD PASSED. Iris was getting bored. She wanted to help with the household chores, but the maid didn’t let her. She asked Joseph what she could do, but he just told her to have a beautiful rest. “But I’m getting bored.” Iris crossed her arms and she stomped her foot on the ground. Joseph only smiled at his wife. Hinawakan niya ang kamay nito. “Then what do you want to do?” “I told you. I want to help.” “Help? By what?” Iris looked at the maids. “By helping them. But they didn’t want me to help them. They didn’t even want me to water the plants in the garden saying that I might get dirty.” “Only you can make them agree so that I can help.” Joseph’s face softened. “Amore, it’s not that I don’t want you to feel helpless. But you are the queen of this house. You don’t need to work and do household chores. We have maids for that.” “But…” “When you get recovered, I’ll let you return to your work, okay?” “Even if I don’t remember anything?” Iris asked, hoping. Joseph nodded. “Though I don’t want to because I could provide everything that we need, I can see that you were really bored. So, after you recovered, the doctor had a go signal. You can go back to work.” “Thank you, Daddy.” Joseph gaped at his wife in surprise. “W-what did you…j-just call m-me?” he asked in a stuttering voice. Iris smiled. “Daddy.” Napalunok si Joseph. “That f—cking turned me on, Amore.” Seryoso niyang saad. Ever since he saw his wife’s nakedness, every day and night became torture for him. And every time he remembered his wife’s nakedness, he would end up getting hard down there. And by that time, he had no choice but to make his hand as his friend. “Joseph,” she called his name. He was calming himself and trying not to look at his wife. “Do you like cookies?” Iris asked, which made Joseph go back to his reverie. Joseph looked at his wife. “It’s my favorite.” Napatango si Iris. Too bad for me, I couldn’t remember my husband’s favorite and what he likes. Sighing, Iris took a cookie from the plate, and then she brought it to her husband’s lips. Joseph munched the cookie before swallowing it while observing his wife. “What’s the matter?” Joseph asked when he noticed the unhappy expression of his wife. Iris sighed. “I felt down.” “Why?” “I couldn’t remember your favorite and what do you like the most.” Joseph’s face softened. “It’s okay, Amore.” Hinawakan niya ang kamay ng asawa. “Cookies are my favorite and what I like the most is you. And no one could surpass you about it.” “Can I kiss you, Amore?” Subconsciously, Iris nodded her head. Joseph smiled, and their lips were about to touch each other but were interrupted when they heard knocks from the door. He was pissed because his heaven time was interrupted. “What?” Joseph asked, annoyed. Nakagat naman ni Iris ang pang-ibabang labi. Outside the door, Monti spoke, “Don, you have a visitor.” Joseph clicked his tongue in annoyance. But his face became soft when he looked at his wife. “I have to meet this annoying visitor, Amore. Just stay here if you want.” “Then can I use your laptop?” Iris asked. Joseph nodded. “The password is your birthday.” Iris was touched but she shook her head. “Daddy, I don’t remember my birthday.” She said with a pout. Natawa ng mahina si Joseph. “Oo nga pala. It’s 1108.” “Oh. Thank you.” Joseph stared at his wife. “Next time, don’t call me ‘Daddy’ again. I’m aroused.” Iris blushed. Joseph smiled and left his office. When he exited his office and saw Monti waiting for him outside, he glared at him. “Don, did I interrupt something?” “At nagtanong ka pa talaga.” Naiinis na wika ni Joseph saka ipinakita kay Monti ang kamao at parang gusto niya itong saktan. Monti bowed. “I apologize, Don.” “It’s Alistair Minrod Roswell, Don.” Tumaas ang kilay ni Joseph. “Talaga? Wow, I never heard of him after he left Italy ten years ago. Himalang nandito siya." Bumaba si Joseph sa hagdan at pinuntahan ang kaibigan na matagal niyang hindi nakita. He went to the first living room and saw Alistair grimacing while smelling the coffee that was served to him. Natawa ng mahina si Joseph saka nilapitan ang kaibigan. “I have a lady in the house so, wine is not allowed to be served to the visitors anymore except if there’s a special occasion.” Alistair Minrod Roswell clicked his tongue in annoyance. “I’m your friend,” he reasoned. “Even so.” Joseph shrugged his shoulders. “Whatever,” Alistair muttered and stood up. He shook his hand with Joseph, and they did a man hug. “Kumusta?” tanong ni Alistair. “I’m good.” Tugon ni Joseph. “How about you?” Nagkibit ng balikat si Alistair. “I’m good. Living a good life. Actually, after we were secluded from the Mafia world, everything became good.” Tumaas ang isang kilay ni Joseph. He can read between the lines. Alam niyang may gustong sabihin si Alistair kaya ito nagpakita ngayon. The Roswell Family had already secluded themselves from the Mafia world. The Roswell Family was one of the powerful Mafia in the Underground organization. “You have already secluded yourself from the Mafia World and you told me before that you had no plans on coming back to the Underground. Why are you here? Your enemy wasn’t here if there is any.” Then he looked around. “Where’s your bodyguard?” “Outside,” Alistair answered, and then he smiled and sipped his coffee. He let out a blissful sigh and placed the cup of coffee on the center table. “I’m here to visit my friend, of course.” Hindi naniniwala si Joseph sa kaibigan. “So, you were residing in the Philippines?” “Yeah, it’s been ten years.” Alistair stared at the cup of coffee and sighed. Napailing na lamang si Joseph. “Tell me, why exactly are you here?” Alistair clapped his hands once and smiled. “I heard you’re married.” “Yeah, I am.” Tumango si Joseph. Hindi pa rin sinasagot ni Alistair ang tanong niya. Iba ang sinasagot nito sa tanong niya kung bakit ito nandito. Alistair chuckled. “You looked happy though. But your ex-fiancé wasn’t happy that you disgraced her family.” Joseph snickered. “I don’t have an ex-fiancé. I didn’t even meet her. It was my grandfather that wanted me to marry her.” Meanwhile, Iris was about to bring some refreshment to Joseph and his friend, but she stopped when she heard Joseph’s friends. Joseph had an ex- fiancé? He didn’t tell me. Or I just didn’t remember about it. Alistair noticed the woman standing beside the divider and looked like she was in deep thought. “Your wife?” he asked Joseph. Tumingin naman si Joseph sa tinitignan ng kaibigan. “Yes, she is my wife.” Alistair thumbs up. “Amore?” tawag ni Joseph sa asawa. Napakurap naman si Iris saka lumapit kay Joseph. Kinuha ni Joseph ang hawak ng asawa. “You shouldn’t bother yourself doing this. We have maids,” he said in a soft voice which made Alistair raise his eyebrows. So, the Mafia Don who was known as ruthless has a tender side? This is shocking. If I didn’t see it myself, I wouldn’t believe it. Alistair thought. Iris smiled. “It’s okay.” Joseph introduced Iris and Alistair to each other. “I thought my friend here was always ruthless, but I didn’t expect him to be tender.” Parinig ni Alistair sa kaibigan. Joseph cleared his throat. “My husband is the sweetest,” Iris said. Joseph smiled proudly. Napailing na lamang si Alistair. Nagpaalam na si Iris kaya nagpatuloy ang magkaibigan sa pag-uusap. Alistair sighed. “I was shocked to see your tender side. Mayroon ka pala no’n.” “Get lost.” Natawa na lamang ng mahina si Alistair. “Why are you here? I know you wanted to tell me something. What is it?” tanong ni Joseph at uminom ng juice. Alistair took a deep breath before speaking. “As you know, before my family, there was a family that secluded themselves from the Mafia world twenty-five years ago.” Panimula niya. Kumunot ang nuo ni Joseph. “They had two children. But the elder child went missing after his parents died in a plane crash. While the younger child lives alone using the insurance of her parents.” “What does it have anything to do with me?” “It had nothing to do with you,” Alistair said and sighed. “It has something to do with your wife.” Joseph was confused. “What do you mean?” Kinuha ni Alistair ang folder na nasa kaniyang tabi at inilapag ito sa center table. “It had the information about the family I was talking about. And then you decide. It’s already up to you what you will do next.” Kinuha ni Jospeh ang folder saka binuklat. Napaayos siya ng tayo nang mabasa ang impormasyon. He looked at Alistair. “This…” “Someone has asked me to. That person has done me a favor, so I’m just returning the favor.” “Ferguson Fontanilla and Ivy Fontanilla... they’re…” Alistair nodded. “They are your wife’s parents.”
