Zelda
As usual, Travis left my chamber after spending an unforgettable time with me. I lay on the bed wondering what I could do to change that. From his gestures, I thought he wanted to speak to me tonight, but it turned out to be another passionate night between us.
"I'm glad that he comes here every night instead of going to find his harem sluts," Mona purred, clearly satisfied that Travis was sleeping with us alone.
She was right. Regardless of the Elder's coercion, I knew that he never touched any of those girls. If he did, I would have felt that. Nonetheless, my relationship with my mate wasn't exactly what I desired it to be. To me, s*x wasn't everything. I wanted more than that. I yearned for an emotional connection between us. A relationship wouldn't be strong if that connection didn't exist.
"You're right, Mona. But I want him to talk to me. I want to know more about him. I wish that he would express his feelings and let out all those hidden emotions. I feel that he has built strong walls to hide his true self. We have heard what happened to him during his childhood from Simon. It must have affected him," I told her.
"Maybe a little mating dance would help," Mona suggested.
"Mating dance?" I grimaced.
"Yeah. Ancient dragons used to do a bizarre mating dance before they copulated. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Just a few steps in this room. You'll wear something sexy that he could rip off..."
"Mona," I cut her off. "I want to have a conversation with him, not sex."
"You love the s*x! We love the s*x!"
"Yes. But ugh…"
I trailed off when my phone started to ring. I was a little surprised to see Carolyn calling me at such an hour. It was well past midnight.
Perhaps something happened to her!
"Hey," I swiftly answered the phone, wondering if she was in trouble.
"Zel!" She screamed. "Guess what? Raphael has disappeared!"
Shocked by what I heard, I propped myself on the bed. "What?"
"Yeah. This morning he didn't attend the training session. We didn't bother about it much until his family informed the authorities. His parents found a note he left in his room," she told me.
"What did it say?"
"That he couldn't take the humiliation and taunting of the recruits anymore," she stated. "Most of it was to inform his family not to worry about him."
The creases on my forehead deepened. "Taunting?"
"Yeah. Word got out about what he had done. It is the talk of the town now. Some of the new recruits teased him a bit but after your dad forbade us from teasing him about it, the jesting died down," she explained.
"Oh, so… he left?"
"I guess. We searched the entire district. We tried to follow his scent but he had masked it before leaving his home."
I pursed my lips, thinking about what I was told. So he left in shame?
"Hailey spoke to me after that. She said that after she found out that Raphael went to see you that night, she didn't want to be with him anymore. She apologised for what had happened. I guess she knew that I would keep in contact with you," Carolyn added.
I shook my head and sighed deeply. Raphael had chosen that path for himself. Things could have been so different if he hadn't been greedy.
"Whatever, Carol. That's none of my business anymore," I replied, shrugging my shoulders.
"Yeah," she agreed. "It's late. Were you asleep when I called… wait! s**t! Is he with you?"
I snickered, amused by the sudden change in her tone. She went from mellow to edgy within a matter of seconds. However, the fact that my mate never spent the entire night with me made me sigh in disappointment.
"What's wrong? Is everything alright there?"
A sad smile curled on my lips as I prepared to lie. "Yeah. Everything is… fine."
"Girl, you may be the Princess, but you are my friend too. Now spill, what's the deal?"
I cast a quick peek at my thighs, where some of the fluids from our intimacy were still there. I still hadn't rinsed them off.
"Nothing…" I told her.
"Lies!" she screamed into the phone. "Tell me what's going on or I'm calling your mom and telling her that you aren't happy there!"
My eyes widened, and I let out an audible gasp. I wanted them to remain in the dark. I was worried about what my brother might do if he heard that.
"No! Don't do that!" I gasped. "I am happy here. I really am."
Carolyn didn't give in. "Something is going on, Zel. You just aren't telling us."
Should I tell her? I closed my eyes and heaved a breath.
"She's our bestie," Mona mumbled.
"Okay," I whispered. "But don't tell anyone."
"If you aren't getting hurt, yeah. I think I'm pretty good at keeping promises," she replied.
"The thing is, Travis…"
"Your mate?"
"Yeah. He is okay, I guess. He isn't hurting me. I mean, he isn't abusive but he doesn't talk to me."
"But I thought you guys were cool. You said that the s*x was mind-blowing."
She sounded confused.
"Yeah, it is…"
"So? How in the world are you enjoying his company if you aren't speaking with each other?"
"I guess it's the mate bond," I muttered. "We both are attracted to each other, but we don't have a real connection between us."
"Dang! That sucks," she mumbled.
"It is," I sighed. "Maybe he is having a hard time opening up. I have found out that he and his mom was exiled shortly after the murder of his dad."
"Oh, that's heavy," she replied. "Where is his mom now? Maybe she could…"
"No," I shook my head. "I heard she had passed recently. To tell the truth, I feel that he wants to talk, but is reluctant."
"Oh no, poor dude," Carolyn whispered. "Then what are you doing? Get the wine! Start the conversation! Poor guy is hurting so deeply."
"I guess I'll talk with Olive and get some drinks for tomorrow night," I muttered.
"I'm guessing Olive is a helper you have. Yeah… do that. Talk, lady. If he is hesitant, you have to take the initiative," she urged.
"Okay, Hun. I really should end the call now. I need to go to the bathroom and wash up," I told her when I felt some of the fluids trickling down my ass.
"Wash what?"
"Uh… semen?"
Silence followed until I heard her inhale a massive gasp of breath.
"Did I call you right after you guys had s*x? Wait… you mean he f****d you and left?"
"Yeah," I snickered. "He sleeps in a separate room."
"Daaaang! Tie him down to your bed! Wait. You need handcuffs!"
Laughing, "how am I supposed to cuff a dragon to my bed?" I asked her.
"Uh… just do it! He's a dragon, ride him!"
"Stop!" My face heated up as I tried to stifle my chuckles. "Go to sleep lady and leave me alone!"
"Okay. Love ya, bestie. I'll call you later."
I was still grinning like a Cheshire cat when I put the phone down.
"So, about the drinks…" Mona remarked as soon as the call ended.
"Yeah, we will do that. Let's try to get him to talk."
As soon as the sun rose the next day, I called Olivia and discussed it with her. She was a darling and told me about a special lover's concoction the dragons made using some special herbs. She agreed to help me with much enthusiasm and left me to search the wardrobe for a suitable dress.
I chose a black sequined gown that hugged my curves at the right places. It had the right amount of modesty and sass in it. A deep neckline and a long slit on the side exposed enough skin. Just enough for his eyes to turn in my direction.
I spent the entire day making the arrangements. Olive and a few other maids helped me with the decorations. We lit up scented candles and scattered red rose petals on the floor. I had a good time bonding with the maids who offered their help. They left by sundown, as they all knew that their king might arrive any time.
I anxiously checked my reflection for the nth time. Though I didn't put much makeup on, I thought I looked presentable. The minutes seemed to tick way slower than they usually did until the door creaked.
"He's here!" Mona whispered as his alluring scent diffused in the air.
I waited by the coffee table where our drinks were placed, anxiously fidgeting on my feet. He entered the room, wearing his robe as usual, but this time, he halted briefly and scanned the room, perhaps astonished by the arrangement.
"Don't just stand there! Do something. Talk, offer him a drink or I will take over and do the ancient mating dance," Mona whispered through our link.
I heaved a breath, in the hopes of calming my erratic heart and poured two glasses of the deep red concoction Olivia had brought on my request.
"Le… let's have a drink?"
I wiped my sweaty palms against the skirt of my gown and offered the best smile I could. I didn't know how he would react to my little arrangement. His cold stare added to my apprehension, yet I hid my anxiousness and held out one glass for him. He silently looked around for a while and sauntered over to me, locking his gaze with me the whole time.
His countenance remained expressionless, which made it hard for me to know if he liked it or not. Nevertheless, when he silently accepted the drink from me with a slight nod of his head, I felt relieved. At least he didn't disapprove of the idea of having a drink with me.
Sitting down, "My name is Zelda Connor. What's yours?" I said.
We hadn't really introduced ourselves to each other. I just happened to know that he was Travis, the King of Dragons and after I arrived at his Palace, our connection had been s****l rather than a real relationship. I watched his demeanour the whole time as I sipped on the drink and waited for him to reply. Its rose-like taste seemed to tingle my senses, instantly calming my nerves a bit.
His lips seemed to wiggle into a tiny smile. "Travis Mullins," he bluntly stated.
My heart raced at the sound of his throaty voice.
"It's nice to be mated to you, Travis," I told him. He stared at me without uttering a word, yet the tiny smile on his face told me that he approved of my effort.
"The pleasure is all mine," he finally said. My cheeks heated up. Smiling bashfully, I averted my gaze, cursing myself for blushing like a virgin on her first night with her lover. I was getting ready for this the whole day. Why did I have to blush at the slightest compliment he offered?
Gawd, I was such a dork!
"You look beautiful, especially when you blush," he said, smirking at me.
"Thanks," I whispered, regardless of feeling embarrassed.
He took a sip of his drink and glanced at the bottle that was on the table. "From where did you get the lover's concoction?"
"I got help from the maids," I told him honestly.
"I like the taste of it," he said.
"I am glad you do," I told him.
"Do you want to be my lover?"
His question was unexpected. My heart skipped a beat and my breathing hitched.
"I… I would like to see if we could work things out like a real couple. I mean… we were destined to be together, so why not try and work things out," I replied carefully.
The little smile on his lips widened. "We can try, can't we?"
After a heartwarming chat and several glasses of the concoction, I started to feel drowsy. I fought to keep my eyelids open, yet they were too heavy for me.
"It's time to go to sleep, little mate," he muttered, standing up from his seat and lifting me in his strong arms.
"Mmm…" I moaned while snuggling closer to his torso. "You're so warm…."
He chuckled. Did I say something funny? I knew I shouldn't have had too much of that drink. Anyway, my mission was a success and I couldn't care less about what happened next. I felt like being laid down on a soft mattress. Something that felt warm and comfortable lay down beside me. Whatever it was, it felt good and smelled nice.
Smiling to myself, I snuggled closer to it and allowed myself to fall into a deep sleep.
Narrator
Unknown to Travis, someone watched him enter and leave her chambers every night. Tonight, when Travis didn't leave Zelda's place, she sneered. She had seen the maids going crazy in Zelda's quarters during the day. Everyone seemed to like her. The maids, guards, even Travis and she despised that.
She loathed the new Princess who arrived from a faraway land. She didn't understand what they saw in her. If only she could deceive the King once again…
